    New to FF14

    Hi,

I picked this game up months ago but only decided to play last night seeing as they are gonna start charging soon. I have a few noob questions so I hope someone can help out.

    - Can I change the map to display in the direction I am facing so instead of always facing north the map faces in the direction I am facing?
    - How do I heal? What can I use to heal? I used water but it only heals a very small amount. When I was at Bearded Rock the items I could buy were minimal and food seemed to do nothing.
    - To change levequests do I have to change weapons?

get cure as conjurer and second wind as pugilist. those are the healing spells and skills in use for a lowlevel. Also, you get health and mana by staying in passive mode.

    1. That is a good suggestion.

    2. You auto heal for a great amount by standing in passive mode. Leveling up Conjurer to learn the spell Cure will help a lot. Bloodbath from Marauder, and Second Wind from Pugilist. Those are all healing abilities.

    3. To change levequest, you either abandon it or accept new ones from the adventure guild.

Ok I get the health regen in passive mode but are there not potions you can buy to heal during battle? And the levequest question I'm not sure if I was clear about and may ask about it again in the future if I don't figure it out. I'm not sure how I become a conjurer or anything like that so I'll just have to explore and find out.

    Thanks.

potions etc are worthless in thiis game sadly, long cooldown, low effect. To get other classes you just equip theire weapons, you will find all starting weapons in adventure guild

Like Medura said, you just have to equip the class's weapon in order to change to that class, so pick up a wooden staff or wand to change to Conjurer. If you go to your City's Adventurer's Guild there are NPCs next to the owner that sell newbie gear and weapons for extremely low prices.

Conjurer learns Cure to heal during battle by using some MP, and is probably the skill you want ASAP. After that, Pugilist's Second Wind uses some TP to restore your HP and helps a lot as it doesn't have a casting time like Cure. I believe if you go into the Actions/Abilities menu you can see every skill every class learns. If you see a move that sounds like you would like to use it, you can level up that class, but make sure that it's usable by other classes. Something that says Requires: Conjury can only be used by Conjurer, Requires: Disciples of War can only be used by Melee/Archer, etc.

I don't know what you mean by changing levequests, if you still can't figure it out explain what you want to do or what you are puzzled about and someone should be able to help.

Kool guys. Thanks. Yea I figured out changing weapons changes classes and stuff. Its quite simple in retrospec but I didn't read up on this game at all.

I thought that you had to be a miner before you could take mining leves but that wasn't the case. I had trouble finding vendors to buy and an axe and stuff because I thought you had to go to the wards. I ended up just exploring Limsa to find out where everything was but it was kinda tedious and the game kept jumping frames and slowing down making it more so.

Also why can I not draw my pickaxe when standing right next to a deposit. Is it a glitch/bug? because it is really annoying. You have to run around on the spot spamming draw until you hit the sweet spot and can start mining.

The game seems okay. Thought it was best to give it a chance since its going to subs soon. I find the graphics are pretty good but the character does weird things when running/walking on some surfaces (jittering up and down) and there is a strange lag when moving around the world. Also huge screen-tear except none when in windowed mode 0_o.

Also my system is mack-daddy and from reading around the game seems to have some graphics issues to start with.

They recently made mining points target-able, so if you select them then walk close and hit Enter, you should start mining. Note that you don't really to be in active mode for gathering or crafting classes 99.9% of the time.

The graphics engine is pretty, but odd. It's the engine for FFXIII and was designed more with console RPGs in mind. This is part of the reason they're writing one more suited to PCs for the 2.0 release at the end of next year. You may have to experiment with the settings or ask around for your graphics card to see what's ideal. Also keep in mind that this game is a major CPU draw, so a low CPU does affect performance.

    Also, welcome!

As Robert said, they are in the middle of creating an entirely new game engine from the ground up for release later this year. Check out the Lodestone front page and click on the Version 2.0 button and you can take a look.

As far as random slowdown goes, something about the Christmas Trees in town seems to make everybody's system chug. I'd be more concerned if the slowdown was happening outside of town.

If you missed what I had said earlier, make sure to check out the vendors in the Adventurer's guild and the ones in the class guilds, as they sell cheap low level gear.

I wish they made it so you could spin the mini-map. Would be a lot easier if they fixed that.
