Given how they've setup other systems in this game, I have a strong feeling that we're not actually "glamouring" an item per say, but ACTUALLY equipping it in a 'ghost' slot the game is using, which would make it impossible for any other job to glamour anything they can't actually equip. and the reason they use "job identity" as the PR response since it would take more time than they want to allocate to change.

Glamours are linked to the item rather than you or your current gearset, though. Unless it's reading the "glamour instruction" on the item and placing it in the phantom slot every time you change gear, I don't think that sounds like the way it would work.Given how they've setup other systems in this game, I have a strong feeling that we're not actually "glamouring" an item per say, but ACTUALLY equipping it in a 'ghost' slot the game is using, which would make it impossible for any other job to glamour anything they can't actually equip. and the reason they use "job identity" as the PR response since it would take more time than they want to allocate to change.
It's simply my own hypothesis from the short time I spent coding, due to the fact they've intrinsically tied the glamour system to the equip conditions of the actual item. I doubt it's as simple as a simple byte value on the actual gear, or it'd be pretty easy to code around it, as all you'd need is to have a function to grab the appearance of the other item and override the graphic/model display function calls with the glamour piece instead, the equip conditions not even needing to be referenced.
Hence why I believe there's extraneous conditions, or the game is using some sort of 'ghost' slot for Glamour leading to the "You can only glamour what you can equip" issue, with "Job identity!" being their PR response. Either that or they're pretty adamant about their aesthetic choice and made it limiting on purpose. Who knows

For some stuff yes weapons no over all i am mixed on this

Honestly as a healer I'm sick and tired of all of our gear always being saturated with white. I'm legitimately thinking of taking a break from healing for a while just so I can wear something decent glamour wise.
Most of the good / dyeable glam is locked behind ex content. I'm looking forward to the ranged dps contest winner but I swear if the healer version is overly saturated with white or the dye scheme dyes the darker bits and keeps the white like skala I'm going to be exceptionally disappointed.

Not all good healer glamour is locked behind ex content and it just takes a bit of creativity to find something non-white that sticks with you. That's not to say that your grievances don't matter, they do, but I also realize from their perspective why they do it...they base most healer gear around the iconic White Mage, so....there's the problem. White Mages have worn white robes since, well....since 8-bit times.Honestly as a healer I'm sick and tired of all of our gear always being saturated with white. The BoneWicca healer gear I found was pretty nice, as well as the Makai White Mage dress to use.

Well, since this is a fairly relevant thread for it, during one of Yoshi-P's server visit Q&A bombs, this question came up:
Note that I think these may be fairly rough translations, and this one seemed oddly focused on accessories otherwise, but yeah, no plans for lifting restrictions.Q. Will you ever remove the class limitations on glamour gear? My accessory slots are full.
A. We still don't have plans on removing class restrictions, but it might be time we should at least remove the restrictions on accessories.
And since it was also brought up in the posts above, about the healer gear being saturated in white:
So no, they'll likely not change the status quo.Q. Is healer gear always going to be a white fluttering coat?
A. The style and line of healer gear won't change that dramatically. It's pretty difficult to differentiate.
Rest of the recent Q&As of the servers if anyone's curious:

Yes, please. I need to look pretty!

There are options and dye exists. See my sig. I play an armored healer.
Veteran healers don't care if we need to heal, but right now we don't. We want interesting things to do during the downtime other than a 30s dot and a single filler spell that hasn't changed from lvl 4 to lvl 90.
Dead DPS do no DPS. Raised DPS do 25/50% lower DPS. Do the mechanics and don't stand in bad stuff.
Other games expect basic competence, FFXIV is pleasantly surprised by it. Other games have toxic elitism. FFXIV has toxic casualism.[/LIST]
