[Spoiler] Samurai Lv 60 Job Quest?

Me: ilv 159, with ilv 145 quest weapon, HP 14129. I would imagine this is about the average gear for the fresh 60.

But I had to kite the master in the first two phases and wait for HP regen. His regular weapon skills hit me for 1.5k a pop. There's no way I can go head to head against him.

Eventually I got him into the third phase, thinking that destroying the balls and staying in the cleared area is safe. But no. Those air balls have no relation to his actual attack surface.

Is it the gear? Seriously, do I actually require end-game gear, as in iLv 200+ to do this properly? I'm sure kiting the master with ranged attacks and waiting for HP regen is not how it's supposed to be done. I mean, I remember one of the later 3.x story fights only require ilv 200. Surely just a job quest shouldn't require better gear than a main story epic fight?

Or is there some mechanic I don't know about this fight?

I wouldn't doubt if it was tuned with higher iLv gear in mind. DRK, AST, and MCH were all pretty highly tuned for 50 fights as well.

Ah. I see. So there's precedent.

Why...oh why. The weird design choices in FFXIV. A new character that swapped to main Samurai at level 50 is supposed to magically be end-game geared for the job quest. I guess I'll just have to do content without the level 60 skill. Thankfully the skill isn't such a big game-changer.

I'll just leave this here to express the disappointment, then. This is really strange tuning.

I mean if you're level 60.... there's i225 or so vendor gear in Kugane... so I mean it's just more ignorance than anything, the content is fine.

159 is pretty low for a 60, though that's just my opinion. If you have a bunch of poetics tomes, but up what shire gear you can amd/or go to the auction house and buy up any cheap pieces of the 255 gear. Otherwise, can hit 61 and go into that dungeon for gear. Plenty of options for upgrades.

Though, like you said, that skill isn't going to make or break you. It'll have its uses, but... yea.

Did you use Bloodbath and Second wind? And third eye? SAM does have powerful self heals. Though there are a very large number of ways to get access to higher level gear too. I personally don't think I struggled too much with it. But SAM duties are a tiny bit overtuned imo. I just watched a video of someone with ilvl 200 gear(18k hp) struggle but he did not use Second Wind or Bloodbath.

Regarding Kugane. I've just hit 60, and I'm still in Heavensward quests. I hope you would refrain from automatically assuming ignorance.

The point is, is a fresh 60 expected to have enough tomestones for the gear? Or is a fresh 60 expected to first go to the market board and gear up? Doing all the quests, there's about 1.7 million gil, and 255 pieces sell for anywhere between 15k to 30k, making it approximately 200-300k investment, just for a job quest?

Remember quest rewards towards level 60 is only itemlevel 139. This is talking about a character just getting to 60, with one or two 145 dungeon pieces. The 159 is already after spending the limited Poetics on those 260 pieces.

It just seems so odd that it's tuned so high. Odd that anyone would expect a fresh 60 to first go buy gear before doing the natural progression of quests.

I did. Not much help when every 2 seconds or so he takes off 10% of your max HP. It seems it's just not tuned for fresh 60 gear.

You will receive gear during the HW MSQ that will compensate your lack of actuel stuff and such. End of patch 3.1 will give you full accessories, mid 3.2 will reward you with a weapon, and end of 3.2 / start of 3.3 a full left side gear.

Once there, you will be Ilvl 230/240 and things will be much easier, including the job quest.

I mean, part of progression is keeping up with gear. Considering the expansion came out with making the shire gear easily obtainable as well as the new ilvl 255 crafted gear... You're going to want that gear to progress onwards through the story at 60 and beyond for stormblood too.

Also, 15-30k is relatively cheap for gear and the poetics tomes are easily farmed.

IIRC, you can buy entry level Stormblood gear in Foundation. And you could do the same last expansion for dark knight, astrologian, and machinist quests, because they were also tuned for higher level gear. Sorry, OP, this doesn't strike me as an actual issue.
