I've walked to most of the nodes, there's not much to see anyway. I even walked to the farthest northwest corner of coerthas to see if there was anything there at all, all i found was an npc telling me what i think was a dungeon was closed.

http://www.ffxivcore.com/wiki/Aetheryte I dunno maybe they were planning to explain it. They explain how it works at least.

Well, there's one thing neglected; all aetherial gates require you to walk/run there yourself. No piggy-back to those areas. And to be frank, getting to Scorpion Keep without getting owned by those Puroboros' hanging in the caves is pretty hard.

@Nephera: Probably that area was near where Coerthas may connect to Dravania, the area west/north-west to Coerthas. It will probably open up in future expansions.

And everything has a price; once you use up all your anima (100 is pretty easy to use up, believe it or not), get those comfortable walking shoes on.

I think it should be like XI. Touch it before you can teleport.

I think being able to teleport everywhere around the world at will is ridiculous.

Makes the game two dimensional, adventureless, purposeless.

Between a party of 15 people doing Guildleve's you're basically guaranteed free teleports anywhere in the world.

It's horrible and totally removes the need to walk ANYWHERE more than once.

Well, they can always slow anima regeneration, but people will then start to complain...right now, I'm fine with how it runs. I learn to walk/run to short distances away in order to conserve Anima, and use it only for quick matters or to teleport over a very large distance. So far, it's been working; my anima has not ever dropped below 50.

The party teleport system is a bit overdone...they should make the cost of teleporting with a party 1, just to make it a bit fairer.

Anyone remember how in FFXI, once you reached lvl 20, you graduated from the Dunes so you had to figure out how to get to Jeuno. That was an adventure. It was lonely and scary. We all remember the time we had to make that journey.

There will be no memories like that in FFXIV. Just get one of your friends to teleport you for free...

    exactly right.

    teleporting like this is stupid.

what is even more stupid is the fact that 95% of the posters in these forums are fanboys that LOVE the game in it's current form (for whatever sick reasons...most likely children that have not played a reall mmo before, aka; ffxi) and will attack any rational thought.

the players left that are actually playing do nothing but exploit or have exploited to end game levels. all they know is rank up as fast as possible and if ANYTHING interferes with their leveling they will attack it.

it is sort of pointless posting on these forums or any other fan forum because the fanboys outnumber the real players. what's too bad for the fanboys is that there isn't enough of them to keep this game alive. the real players gave up a long time ago and don't visit forums.

the worst part of all this is that the dev team may be persuaded by the fanboys to keep the game as it is and simply "add content" thinking that is all that's missing. this won't work because the fundamentals of the game are broken.

In response to not having lore check the website.

Though the exact mechanism behind teleportation via aetheryte is still largely a mystery, one theory states that when a sentient being approaches one of the portals, the aether that makes up its body resonates with the aether of the crystals, which in turn results in a complete breakdown of the being’s mass, allowing it to temporarily return to the invisible aetheric streams that course throughout the planet. The being’s soul, which cannot be broken down, then guides the particles to a pre-determined destination, and upon arrival, the corresponding aetheryte receptacle reconfigures the mist back into its original form. This whole process takes only a matter of moments, allowing for nearly instant transportation to faraway destinations.

However, being broken down to the aetheric level can take its toll on one’s body, and rest is often required after several consecutive jumps, especially as the distance becomes greater. As a precaution, most city-states strongly discourage over-teleporting, as it can lead to irreversible damage...
    http://na.finalfantasyxiv.com/#/gameplay/guildleves Click on Aetheryte

I think this is pretty good proof that there is Lore reason to back up having teleportation in game.

Though once they add Chocobo's and Airships I kinda wonder what will happen to Teleportation. Will it remain but be much more sparse when they add new areas which is the main reason for Chocobo's and Airships? or will teleportation get removed or reduced? Hmmm...

    you are right.

what made this an adventure was the xp loss death penalty. ffxi has a real risk vs. reward system where you do everything you can to avoid death. in ffxiv death is just another means of transportation so no one is affraid of it and it prevents any kind of immersion in the game world.

in ffxi there was a reason to avoid mobs on your way to jeuno or any place you venture. in ffxiv there is hardly a reason to do so and hardly a reason to play. the "race to end game crowds" are the only ones left playing the game. it is the only types of players the game was designed to attract and retain, a fundemantal design error.

if this yoshi p guy doesn't wake up and realise that a world is meaningless without risk vs. rewards the game will never attract the ffxi crowd and the older generation mmo player. if it means they create a "hardcore" server that has death penalties in order to attract the older players they should do this asap after the game is fixed. i am tired of playing on these kiddie themeparks (WoW, Rift) with no concequences.
