I love the new gear that was shown in the live letter, I see the JS weapons, but for glad...I don't see a shield?..will there be one?

Good point, but my thoughts are, if you look at it, hes 1 handing that sword
which means there is room for a shield in there


perhaps the shield isnt shown because they are only wearing the job specific gear and there will be no job specific shield

but perhaps whats happening is that each job will get the same ammount of pieces

which means shield becomes an odd man out, therefore there wont be a job specific shield?

it makes alot of sense if you think about it

Long as they don't go the route of Paladin being a non-shield job like other MMOs are starting to treat them as. If it's designed like XI's in any way it'll no doubt have a Shield which a good deal even now are Gladiator specific, so it's not out of the realm of impossibility.

No, no, no. PLD will definitely have a shield. That much is pretty obvious given the concept art and the 2.0 gameplay screen shot.

The question is if there is a job-specific shield for the PLD set, or if you're given the freedom to select the shield you would like to equip. Both are valid approaches honestly.

yeah paladins will definately use shields

but im still going with no job sheidl,a nd that you just have to go with whatever shield you want to go with from there

Yea, I wouldn't be upset if that was the case. Ideally I'd want there to be a shield as part of the set, but the freedom to still use any shield. Something that goes with the set aesthetically :P

I have a feeling that all weapons equipped by jobs will be job specific only. Like a PLD cannot equip any sword, a DRG any lance, etc. Already rather obvious that a BRD won't suddenly transform the Ifrit's Bow into a musical turd. The weapons may get their own names for the type they are even, like Holy Sword, Dragon Lance, etc.

It'd make sense if the PLD, even if had little choice when it came to swords, had all the choices when it came to shields.

I would like a job shield (not just for the stats which I hope would be good) to complete the set. So you dont have to have a mismatched look. I love the way the gear looks as a whole, having one shield out of place would mess with my OCDness

You can see a shield but it is no exclusive one (at least the pattern is not)

Its a shame we wont get the glowy emitters till 1.20
