My first bad experience with another player. :o

Been playing just over two months, and I've been AMAZED at how generally nice and helpful the community is. Seriously, I really expected a lot more "elitist" types, but it seems most people just want to have fun.

Got my RL friend into the game, and we've had a TON of fun for the past month or so. People have given him advice along the way (when I couldn't give it myself), and we've just generally all-round had fun playing together and with others who've been more than helpful.

This last dungeon we did, though (C. Meri.), we wanted to take it slow and view the cutscenes, but the rest of the party was rushing ahead. I mentioned, "Hey, we got locked out because we're viewing cutscenes," and the response was pretty much that they could take care of it and not to worry about it. That was fine by us, really. We watched the cutscenes, and tried to catch up with the party the few times we had the chance.

At the very end, this buttmunch Healer goes,
next time... especially as a tank.... don't freaking view cutscenes when you can view all of them after
i usually view cutscenes too but you're being really rude by doing nothing half the dungeon

I could TOTALLY understand if we were using the Party Finder and looking to farm stuff, but this was just ridiculous. After the rest of the party told us it's fine, this guy decides to be an arse like that.

Totally blew the mood we had going, my friend was happy to finally have gotten that far, and I was happy for him as well, and this guy wants to whine about us enjoying the game, and had the audacity to say WE were the ones being rude.

Dude, if you ever happen to read this, I hope you realize just how rude YOU were being.

    Sorry, just had to rant.

[Mods, I just found the "Tales From Duty Finder" thread, please feel free to close this or merge it into that thread. I can't seem to delete it myself.]

Oh, thank you for that. I'll edit my first post and see if I can figure out how to delete the rest.

Aaaah... one of those runs again - while that sucks, I need to ask yout to put yourself in his shoes aswell:
Those dungeons have long cutscenes. Its a big designflaw and you'll be happy to hear that SE didnt repeat this mistake.
I recently did the last ARR-dungeon (Praetorium) for the friend of a friend. It took over an hour because they were watching cutscenes - completly fine because between the three of us we agreed on that being cool. But: An hour.
Those dungeons are basically 15 minutes action and 45 minutes cutscene.
I dont want to blame you or your friend for wanting to enjoy your journey there, hell no - but you please need to understand that you're asking 6 other people to just stand around and do nothing for 45 minutes while you watch your cutscenes.
Its not 5 minutes or something minor like that. Its an aweful lot of cutscenes - not your fault wanting to enjoy them, but I can also understand why someone doesnt want to go through that again. Its really bad design there.

I just wish, SE would resort to giving everyone a warning message before queueing for that dungeon - something along the lines of: "The following dungeons are very cutscene-heavy, make sure you're in a party that will allow you to watch them".
You can argue all about how we should all be patient and friendly and let new people just watch those cutscenes, but when that means that the rest of the party has to wait for 30-45 minutes that doesnt seem very reasonable to ask anymore, I'd say.

I can only urge everyone: If one of your friends reachs those dungeons: Grab them, grab a third person and do them unsyched. It will be a better experience for them and you wont make 7 strangers wait for a very long time.

(also: you can bypass the characterlimit by editing your first post)

Again: Not your fault. But I cant really blame those people either. If you've got only 2 hours of playtime each day and you spend half of the time waiting for someone to finish a cutscene... thats not fun.

Vidu, you need to read the OP again because you keep claiming the party was slowed down. The party didn't have to wait for him and that idiot healer is to blame for being rude. Such intolerant people do not deserve a new player bonus and I wish new players could deny it from anyone who makes the experience unpleasant.

The truth is in the quote. You can only end up in MSQ dungeons on purpose so you shouldn't queue if you don't want new players experiencing the dungeon as intended. It's as bad as those mentors who only queue Mentor Roulette for the mount and ruin the experience for the new players.

    Vidu,

I do understand where you are coming from. But as I mentioned, the rest of the party had already said (when I first mentioned we were watching scenes) that they could handle it.

We were not asking them to wait for us at all. But neither should our gameplay experience be ruined from some arse that wants to call us "rude".

If they are playing the dungeon for loot or for any other reason that they want to go quickly, then they can use the Party Finder. If they got in there because of Roulette, then I guess it should be taken out of Roulette. That would be a simple solution from SE's side.

There's no excuse for that kind of crap, though--calling people "rude" for playing the game how it was intended.

If they take it out of the roulette, no one is going to do those dungeons. You'll be stuck in the queue forever and with that, you wont be able to finish the 2.0-storyline (until you grab some friends and go unsyched - or syched, doesnt matter in the end). I know its a tempeting solution to say "well, lets just remove everyone who doesnt want to run those dungeons properly!" - but with that you're removing 95% of the people currently doing those dungeons with the other 5%.

The problem with the "playing how it was intended" is though: the way it was intended is for 8 people to watch 45 minutes of cutscenes - great for the first time, okay the second... aweful on your 10th run. 45 minutes isnt a small portion of time, specially not when you compare it to the 15 minutes that dungeon actually takes - again: its bad design and SE learned from it. Not all intentions are good - and this clearly wasnt thought through at all.

Of course, if the rest of the party agreed and only one person had to be a bit of a jerk in the end, that sucks and I dont want to defend that - but even if those cutscenes are intended, its still a lot to ask of a bunch of strangers to wait for those.

And not wanting to be rude here either, but: If you feel your experience is ruined by someone calling you "rude" when they felt they've just carried you through the dungeon (what they did, objectivly speaking - more or less by their choice, but when you were watching cutscenes instead of fighting you were pretty much dead meat - all unfortunate and not your intention to "leech" but again: two sides here), you should invest in a thicker skin here.
