Anyone Else Find Sprint No Longer Using TP Making Tanks Even Worse?

I just had a lovely experience of a tank sprinting off while I was typing and he pulled an enormous amount. Even with sprint I had no hope of catching up until he stopped but by then he had less than 20% hp. When we wipe all I get told was "you panicked" "use sprint" and "I had Living Dead on, you had plenty of time to heal".

This is far from the first time I have seen this happen as a healer or as a dps watching this happen to another healer.

Sprint used to be my panic button for "oh s*** the tank has ran off ahead without waiting for anyone" but now that they can also sprint, I got nothing.

I can heal chain pulling tanks no problem provided I'm actually in range to heal them. Unfortunately many tanks tunnel while they pull and don't consider that healing has a limited range. Many also seem unaware of their hp, and pull additional packs when they have less than 30% hp.

Honestly this is very much making me lose my taste for duty roulette. I pugged no problem throughout HW but the change to sprint in SB is seriously making me consider refusing to heal any dungeons without a tank from my fc.

In HW I very rarely saw healer in need for duty roulette, now I see it so often in SB. I'm sure in a lot of cases sprinting tanks have something to do with it.

I know nothing is going to change, but hell I'll vent here and maybe some other healers will too and we'll all feel a bit better.

EDIT:To those telling me to sprint....read the post. I did sprint.

I even managed to type while auto sprinting to ask the tank to stay in range but he made no effort to. He either didn't see what I said or chose to ignore it.

I'll never understand why a tank would use sprint in the first place in a dungeon after aggroing a mob. Just run with your team . . . problem (mostly) solved.

Anyway assuming you as the healer are geared properly and using heals over DPSing, if the tank still dies because he pulled a million mobs then the fault lies 100% with the tank. Grinding dungeons in this game shouldn't be stressful to anyone involved. If it is then you're doing it wrong haha.

To reduce or outright bypass the damage taken by the first set of mobs while gathering another. Granted, he should always use it before entering combat for the double duration.

The trick: you should run with the tank. Don't expect the guy under fire to walk to the next gather for you, prolonging that damage and making the process less safe.

Also... you can run while typing. Auto-run is there for a reason. With a keyboard you can even type between GCDs or while clicking away your rotation with the other hand.

Sprinting is not a tank trap, unless paired with people who aren't paying attention whatsoever. It's sanity. You should ALL be using sprint.

Unless, of course, the healer is trying to cast Protect.... because you know, 15% defense is nearly as powerful as a Rampart (last I checked, that's 20%). It + Rampart is a full one-third damage reduction, and to go sprinting off before you even have the buff is insanely stupid, and expecting the healer to stand there casting it AFTER the pull is even more ludicrous because heal spam is usually required to keep the tank alive early in the pull.

The Healer COULD swiftcast it, but as a healer, I loathe doing this because about the time I do, a SC+Raise or SC+Cure 3 or SC+Cure2 would have saved the group from a wipe which costs far more time than waiting for a 3 second cast before mashing the sprint button.......

Iirc, the % damage reduction caused by the entirety of some 4.5k Defense is still under 20%. Your 15% is then 15% of that, so really more like under 3% damage reduction. But you could always cast it before the ring falls, unless they're sprinting immediately out of the cutscene. This should also occur only once per instance, whereas Sprint should be occurring every 60-100 seconds, with the death of every gather.

The tank shouldn't be sprinting if the healer is lagging behind. It used to be fine to do this since the healer could Sprint to catch-up, but now if the tank sprints the gap between the tank and the healer isn't going to shrink.

And before anyone mentions that the healer should just keep up, remember that healers often have relevant things to cast between pulls like a shield on the tank, or the healer might be pre-casting a DPS spell on the target the tank is going to pull. All of these things require standing still so healers will generally lag slightly behind the tank so before a tank hits sprint it's generally a good idea to at least check if the healer is close by first.

SOME... tanks will sprint WHILE THE FINAL MOB IS STILL ALIVE.

I mean, really, dude? How about finishing the first pull before you begin the next?

Or how about Loot Windows? As a healer, I need time to roll/pass on loot and the only time I get _IS_ between pulls. But, if the tank is going to mash his sprint button and take off like a rocket regardless of whether or not I'm ready... bad things will happen.

It comes down to the tank thinking that he alone has authority over the whole group, when in fact the healer is more the deciding factor of who lives or dies. The tank can't tank anything without heals, lol. Him running away from the very thing that can save his life is not very smart.

Because on large pulls it means you're taking less hits due to the distance you create with the previous mobs you just aggro'd which leaves you with a good amount of health to soak up the hits when they all converge on you + the other group you just pulled. I only pop sprint right before I start pulling a large amount of mobs and the healer has more than enough time to pop sprint as well to keep up. Hell I usually pop sprint with my weapon drawn so that they can visually see me sprinting.

Came here to say this. There's no point in the tank running ahead. It won't speed up the dungeon run, because you'll still have to wait for the rest of the party to catch up and kill the mobs you pulled, and even if you aren't pulling anything, you'll still have to stand and wait at the next boss encounter until the rest of the party arrives. No point whatsoever sprinting in dungeons unless you need to catch up to the party or avoid a mad AOE spam.
