I believe it to be the laziest retort. How can you compete with it when you give it that sort of power? I could ask for a flying underwater turkey taco cat dinosaur and you'd have to accept that it's a good idea because you don't have to use it. That's why I don't give that argument such obscene power in community discussion- because it would lead to a lot of dumpster fires if it was actually true and SE took it to heart all the time.
Fair enough. I do agree that there are going to be instances where that reply does do damage as far as discussion goes for potential problems, and giving a lazy reply like that too much social power is ridiculous. I'd say cases like this though, with a non-controversial vanity request, is where it seems fine. I want to point out though that even a silly request like the one you used as an example sounds fair enough to me with a game like this lol. People can ask for as serious of a vanity good or as stupid of a vanity good. I'd say they're both fine here. How the devs would work in a flying/swimming turkey taco cat dinosaur though is beyond me... mad scientist?

I personally just roll my eyes at ridiculous (imo) costumes and move on, but I've known people that won't touch MMOs because characters using the goofy or out of place glamours ruins the aesthetic for them.
I'd argue that's more of a players problem than a problem for the game itself. What I mean is, if the devs promote the idea of being silly with your look, then that's basically what you should expect players to take advantage of. We have many silly outfits that the devs intentionally add to the game for the intent of pure fun (the "haha" sort of fun). I mean, some NPCs are made to have that silliness be a defining characteristic lol. Now, if the devs intended to have a strictly serious sort of approach to their worlds aesthetics, then that'd certainly warrant concern if they suddenly decide to throw in silly stuff, but that's not the case. The devs clearly like their vanity to have both be available (hence why we even have a Gamera reference mount).

Not getting into the argument itself as I am not invested in the topic enough, but this particular argument is absolutely wrong. If something is a player problem, it is a 99% of the time also a developer problem. If poor art direction and eyesore glamours and mounts are causing players to unsubscribe or not subscribe in the first place, thats not just a player problem.

I liked Yokai as a one off I guess, but how many collaborations/ridiculous glamours until we become PSO2?

Do they? Do you have a source for that fact?
