You shouldn't be punished on a game that is meant to be fun. XI masochism at its best.
I am all for rewarding excellence for zero deaths, in fact this is a great idea to help boost drop rates (HINT HINT SE).
There is no reason someone should be punished for being able to do it otherwise however.
Content that doesn't get old! The game developers should just pull a slugworth and steal Willy Wonkas idea, invent some sort of Everlasting Gobstopper content for FF14, and we'll never have to worry about bad drop rates cause it never gets old!
Genius.

Lol sniperrifle. Excellent reference.
vedis, why do you want to make it harder for yourself without any reward? lol. I don't understand when people want to make it harder on themselves with nothing to gain. For instance, you could agree to not raise each other to make your fight more challenging but you won't. So instead of challenging yourselves harder, you're presumably too lazy or too soft, so you want the dev team to do the very same thing you can already do. And instead of greater challenge and greater reward, you want the same lowsy reward but with a greater challenge. Or if you could I'm sure you'd rather have a worse reward and a greater challenge. lol
Why not leave the system as it is if you can already have what you want with it? Everyone else can enjoy the game the way they want to, or even better, ask to be better rewarded for your greater accomplishments but without the expense to less skilled or less organized players.

Drops are hard enough as it is. Believe me im STILL at 0/40ish with ifrit! I cant really say I die too often in the fight (wipes not included) but the LAST thing I need is to have my chances of getting a weapon reduced more...
I've been able to control the /rage so far but these primals are really irritating the frak outta me

I'm not real sure what the point is. I think the point is that the OP thinks players aren't trying hard enough to win. Am I right? If so, I don't think his suggestion is going to help. No one wants to wipe their party and every death contributes to that. So people already have a strong incentive to not die. I think the idea of trying to remind them how important it is to not die is just a misguided attempt to get them to be better players. First rule of economics: people respond to incentives.
