Here's a list of tops that I current own that aren't pseudo-dresses, aren't tunics, aren't long coats, aren't virtually barechested, and are useable by all classes:

Wind Silk Coatee (Really nice and versatile)

Riviera Doublet (Not bad at all... would love a sleeveless version though!)

Scion Adventurer's Jacket (Nice but a bit too modern for my taste)

Miqo'te Vest (one of my fav's and I wish other races had something similar much like I wish I could use the Hyur undershirt and starter chest (even if it is a tunic of sorts))

Scion Rogue's Jacket (From the mogstation Thancred Modish outfit, this top is great... except for the long strips of green cloth hanging from it and the fact that it can't be dyed)

Survival Shirt + variants (These are nice and basic tops. Would like to see more in this style, maybe a few fancier versions - but no dangling sashes and crap)

Falconer's Shirt (This shirt seems slightly oversized but isn't bad. I wouldn't mind see something in this style with rolled up sleeves and more form fitting)

Holy Rainbow Shirt of <insert role here> (This was a great piece because every role has a version of it. I could have done without the poofy sleeves but all in all not bad)

Vintage Doublet Vest (A very basic vest that shows up in the low levels, particularly among crafting/gathering gear)

Uraeus Body Armor (Not bad though the sleeve parts are kinda weird)

Archaeoskin Jackcoat of Gathering/Crafting (these jackets look nice and take dyes well)

And that's about the most of it for the things anyone who isn't a Ninja, Monk, or Samuai can use.

Trust that I have gone through the MB as a WHM many times trying to find alternatives. But this is about all there is... and that certainly isn't "plenty" in my opinion.

How many men am I involved with? Well that depends... do you mean men as in males? Or just midlanders?

I'm not. I think it looks pretty cool tbh.

In response to the "Then glamour it" comments.

Sure, you can glamour over it, but with what options? Because most things are kinda what OP is complaining about, you don't get many options for the gear that doesn't look that way.
So even then at that point, your options are pretty limited.

Anyway, my point is with new SB armors, it's a missed chance to add other kinds of variety.
There is plenty of non-flowy armour, or is your problem that there's not enough -new- non-flowy armour?

Also we know how Ala-Mhigans tend to dress...they got a lot of flowy stuff. The Domans are known for kimonos and such the like. Why is anyone surprised we got flowy gear? I bet if we got very little other players would be complaining that the gear doesn't correspond to the cultures of both nations.

I wouldn't hold my breath for anything to be changed, really. The majority of the outfit design in HW save for a few outliers was longcoats/halfskirt tops by the vast, vast majority and I'm certain that SB will be much the same.

Yeah, I'm tired of it too. Seems everything that isn't AF (which, Hell, at least we get that) or from 'that one dungeon' is relegated to longcoats. Maybe some PvP gear will be alright.

It's also OK to wish for more armor that is in your taste.

Support this. I'd like to see more dalmatica type stuff for casters. At the no ite my scholar has the scion adventurers Jacket because its not a long coat or robe.

Same with my paladin I find myself often going back to the gallant /valor armour just because there's no stupid capes or anything with it.

And although it's a newer job I found my samurai to be much the same. Everything is long coats pretty much. Except maybe the level 67 yanxian set.

I'd love to see so thing like the hachiman armour set from xi for samurai

People entirelly missed the point there's too much robes and too few other styles. Glamour is not an answer for that.

I support more halfrobes and things like the Company Tabard, which dyes beautifully and is one of my favourite pieces. In conjunction with a nice pair of long boots. Quite a lot of the tunics usable by DPS jobs look pretty great too, shame they're locked for glamour.

Maybe we can post some pictures of styles we like, to inspire the community team when they pass our feedback up the chain?

That kind of misses the point, imo.

We all know we can just slap a glam on it...though honestly, if you don't want robes your options there are effectively "fancy dress, bikini, or casual wear" besides a couple non-robey items.

But it would be nice to be able to run up to the new tome vendor on day 1 and be excited when you try on the gear you're going to get in a couple weeks instead of going "oh...another <butt cape, robe that covers the rest of my glamour, or coat>." Other roles have a wider range of aesthetics, from tanks getting that awesome flowing PvP dress-robe-whatever-you-want-to-call-it, to ranged alternating between flowy shirts, long coats, fitted tops, etc.

Healers and casters almost always, with a few obvious exceptions such as the Eikon gear in post 5, get something that includes a hip scarf, butt cape, long coat or robe, etc, with not a lot of variance even amongst that - we don't have anything as grand as the tank robe mentioned before, but we don't have anything super casual (but still fitting our role) like some of the ranged gear. It seems there's a few set "bases" they start with (a top with hip cape/capes on the back or side such as the Hailstorm, Creation, and Ironworks (caster) gear; a coat such as the Shire gear and a few others; and a top or tabard that has a bunch of random stuff slapped on the hips like belts, pouches, extra cloth, etc) and don't deviate far from often. Even floor length robes such as the Void Ark robe don't happen nearly as much as those do, and those are what I imagine when I think "magic user."

They can come up with DoM gear that's tops like the Gyuki gathering top (slap a shawl on it or something if you want it to be ~magic~ themed), more tops that don't cover the bottoms (and allow "extra parts" bottoms their parts, such as Light Steel Subligar and Eastern Lady's Loincloth) like the Shisui or Bunny tops, short robe/tops like the Chivalric Doublet and Company Tabard, etc. Or, they can add more diverse lv1 glamour gear that includes pieces that look like armor (not necessarily metal, just not t-shirts and fancy dresses). Even the Ala Mhigan gear, despite still being robes, is a breath of fresh air because it's different enough.

There is no apostrophe in Au Ra.
Stop adding one three years later.
