Is there any reason to play BLM over RDM now days?

I'm just curious, because it looks like on FF logs, there are absolutely no BLM, and all the slots RDM took. RDM does the same amount of damage as BLM, but also offers utility, heals, rezes, and is super mobile. Is there any reason to actually level a BLM anymore? Or did everyone hop over to RDM?

It's hard to play the class when you see a rdm. It's like, when I'm in a dungeon and I see another caster putting out the same damage numbers as me, but is also mobile, also can heal others, and can rez on the fly, that just makes me feel like my class is really weak. Shouldn't black mage get something to make up for this? At this point it makes me feel like there is no reason to even play the job because red mage is just so much better.

From an efficiency standpoint? Absolutely not. As you have said RDM does everything a BLM can do. Bundled in they are more mobile, offer raid utility up the wazoo and are far more forgiving to play. In their current standing RDMs are just straight superior to BLMs. The logs speak for themselves. The only reason to play BLM is because you enjoy it more than RDM.

Nope. RDM is factually OP right now. Taking a BLM/SMN instead of an RDM is an extremely severe handicap. :c Unless we're talking Expert Roulette.

What? I'm not even talking about Embolden, LOL. RDM is straight up better than BLM/SMN in every single way, and there's nothing even close that they can do to make a worthwhile case for their existence.

Oh I agree. I just remember you claiming Embolden gave the raid 6% dps increase. Which is far from the truth- but yes, RDMs are busted.

Tiny exaggeration? Perhaps. But the main thrust of that comment is it brings far more dps and utility then either of it's competitors at no cost to itself.

I'm with you. It's very frustrating how SE seems to think this ok. The buffs to BLM while nice- didn't really address the bigger issues. Don't even get me started on completely ignoring SMNs.

I play blm just because I enjoy it. I don't want to face roll my rotation. I hate the play what you enjoy trope, because if what you enjoy costs you raid spots, or just efficiency it sucks. BUT I just don't enjoy playing rdm

Same. Would it greatly benefit my raid to go RDM? Absolutely. Do I enjoy playing RDM? Not even close to as much as BLM.
