Its not an easy thing to do actually. Not just going through the MSQ. I am level 51 My Summoner right now is gear level 65. My Scholar gear level 54. How have others done this.

At level 50, you can farm poetics and gear your jobs with those (you can get item level i130 set that lasts you until 55!). Also, dungeons will always give you at least 1 piece of loot for the job you're running them with. So you can also farm gear from your current dungeon.
Thank you..SO just run a lot of dungeons then.
Yes and no. You have plenty of options at level 50 as well as 60, since the game got somewhat fully redesigned, and it's not as bad anymore as we experienced it back in the day. But it makes it defiantly less monotone and boring.
Daily Beast Tribes, starting at level 47 I believe, are giving out poetics. Yes it's not much, but if you're planning on maxing them anyways, might as well get something out of that.
Daily Roulette's - lvl 50 roulette and trial should give a good amount of poetics
Daily PvP roulette gives a lot as well, however it's more recommended at level 60, but you could if you wanted to that.
Palace of the dead, when entering at the level 50 or/and 60, you will gain at the end of every 10 floors poetics, gil and experience, so higher you get in floors, more you get at the end. Most lucrative are the floors with the "end" boss aka floor 41-50 and 91-100, but even the lower floors are nothing you should miss out on.
Regular level 50 dungeons, will yield poetics as well, but have been reduced a while ago. Dungeons like snowcloak for example are easily farmed since it doesn't take long, but give only I think 20 or 40 poetics at the end, however if you can get let's say 25 runs in within an hr time frame, it might be quicker/faster then other methods. Except daily roulette's because till level 60 these are the ones that have the most pay out.
Something that always is a good thing to do, not much fun tho, would be running the level 50 main story dungeons. Either via daily roulette or just queue by itself, most of the times you find new players in there, giving you an extra tome bonus and that's what you would be after.
So my advice is just try everything and see what you like most, or mix and match it, then you won't get bored easily. But if you're planning on gaining these tomes very quickly, then PotD (palace of the dead) is your best friend. Nothing goes faster then that. Hope it helps.
Keep in mind that after you have finished the ARR MSQ, the old HW MSQ will give out HQ gear, sure you can only pick one piece at the time, but most of them are in 3 phases. Meaning first quest would give you an option to chose from melee gear and gil, 2nd one would be mostly healers and 3rd mostly is ranged classes + ninja. Not sure why they did that with the ninja but hey who cares lol. Anyways, that would also give you another option of obtaining gear, while leveling, and then the leveling dungeons itself, will yield a couple of good gear pieces but by that time, you will have accumulated so much poetics that you probably have capped twice already (2000 total) if not even more. Gear nowadays is really not as bad as it might look.
Edit: don't forget your level 50 job gear, while it's only ilvl 90 but it's free and get you easily in the level 50 dungeons, without having to buy gear or being a burden to your group, till you farmed the poetics to get gear from the npc in mor dhona.
