No VPN?

Hello,
I am a new to playing FFXIV. I was wondering how to play without using a VPN. My friend can play fine without one but I have to use one to play. I usually get the Lobby server connection error 2002 when I don't use the VPN.

All the VPN is doing is attempting to change your route to get to the Square Enix servers, rather than rely on your Internet Service Provider's routing. So without that your options are:

1) Talk to your ISP and try and get them to change your routing (what the VPN is doing)
2) Move to another ISP (who may/may not have the same bad routing though)
3) Move house (ideally somewhere closer to the SE servers for the region you play in)

I appreciate that some of these options (the last one in particular!) aren't very helpful, I'm just mentioning it because it is still technically an option (just not a very convenient one).

Ideally getting your ISP to change your routing would be best, but with most ISPs you'll unfortunately struggle to actually get hold of someone high enough up the company with the ability to actually do this.

If you friend resides somewhere near you, it might be worth asking them what Internet Provider they use and then possibly consider moving there yourself?

Option 4) Unsub and vote with your wallet that the server location is unacceptable. (The forums are filled with connection issues since the server move).
