Just came back after a year

I just reinstalled after a year hiatus...what can I say, I am testing the 1.20 version, but besides a couple of "updates" in the game's mechanics, it still feels like this game was designed in Mars or something. It feels so alien and cumbersome to even target and attack a mob.
I am also surprised at how empty the server is, if I see a player doing leve quests is as surprising as finding an NM. I guess you HAVE to be in a LS at this point to not feel like you are in a deserted island...

Also, what is this about $3 per extra character, that's nuts! All MMO's these days allow you to have 4-8 characters per account at no additional charge, but no, SE wants to stick to the FFXI model with a greed cherry on top...do they really want to kill this game on purpose??

In any case, I am around "testing" the game, if any of you wanna pty up that's cool, my in-game name is Kasathar, just look for the big Galk..err..Roegadyn dude with a BFL (Big Fkn Lance)

I would like to know your feedback in regards to the game and the server population status. I have been out of the loop for so long that I have no idea if the game is really worth it at this point.

    See ya later.

Things only feel alien and unintuitive until you become accustomed to them.

All other MMO's might allow you to have multiple characters, but here you can play all classes and do everything with a single one. You don't need multiple characters to experience all aspects of the game.

Server population will probably drop when billing commences but SE will merge servers accordingly when needed.

I think the game is very much worth it. For some people, there's not a whole lot of content in the game yet, but that should start changing quickly once the fundamental rewamps are (mostly) complete.

    Thanks for the feedback, Kit.

I played FFXI for 6 years and even though I really loved the fact that I could play all jobs in one character, I always wanted to have some extra characters in regards to Race just for the aesthetics or because there were no gender counterparts (Galka, and Mithra, and here the case of Roegadyn, Highlanders, and Miquote).
I know there are talks about adding genders to the "mono-gender" races we have here in version 2.0 but that is a long ways still.
My main problem is that I have "no" option, no choice, that's probably my main gripe with the game as a whole since it was released, and really, paying $3 for an extra character sounds more a little bit like a "money grab" scheme to me, I mean, nobody dares to do that anymore, specially games that actually need people to populate it and make it profitable and not the opposite.

I entirely agree with you in regards to servers merges because right now is just very boring and lonely. Not even the worst population days in FFXI were this deserted.

I agree this game has "potential", but "worth it" it's a little bit of a strong sentence now that I look what I am playing today.

I really appreciate your feedback, I hope more people let me know their point of view.

    Thanks!

Probably not the best time to come back to the game unless you've got a well-rounded group of friends to do stuff with... Then lies the next problem, the lack of things to do with said friends.

With how low the server population is, even during peak hours, I fear your biggest problem will be fighting boredom and loneliness.

My only feedback is I would suggest coming back for 2.0, and finding a new more interesting way to spend your free time until then.

With the new year around the corner, there is no better time to start a change in routine. Unfortunately, you're probably deadset on playing FFXIV... :P

With all sincerity, I hope the game works out for you then.

The game's progress isn't a straight line upwards unfortunately. Core systems are going to be left unaddressed until they are remade and remaking them takes a long time.

Other MMOs lock you to a single class forever on each character, a detail that not so surprisingly gets forgotten when the topic of extra character subs comes up. If you want to ridicule SE for offering a vanity service (that totally isn't a vanity service in other MMO's) then at least get your facts straight.

If the game was not worth it for you when it was free it is not worth it now that it costs money. Wait for 2.0 or don't- that's where the game's fate lies.

    Thanks for the feedback guys.

I have tested most of the ystsem now and the add ons that came with Ver. 1.20.

I am glad to see that the game is taking some kind of shape now. I'm happy there are quest givers, especially since I am just a lvl 28 LNC.

I might even subscribe if things keep going they way they are. Still I would love to hear more feedback in regards to game mechanics and how has this affected your gameplay routine.

Well, I've played THM, CNJ, and GLA since the patch and I'm absolutely loving the combat system with the new abilities. I don't have much experience with MMOs, but it seems like they're doing something special here. I did give SW:ToR a try during the beta and actually ended up launching FFXIV because the fighting was more fun, but that may have only been due to my ToR character's level.

I think the gathering minigame could use a little spicing up, but it makes sense and seems balanced. The crafting minigame on the other hand needs a rework. The complexity is there, but the effects of actions and stats always come across as unnecessarily vague.

That's a brief summary of my opinion on the gameplay, as for the routine I'm usually on at peak hours and typically can find a party for something.

    Thanks again for the feeback.
I agree in regards to crafting and gathering, there are a lot of little things that seem more of a nuisance than an actual active part of the game.

I am still trying to get used to the "peak times" since I don't really know when they happen yet.

I am surprised by the fact that now I don't want to log off, all I want to do is get that last quest leg done. My only gripe with quests is that they make you run around way too much. I wouldn't care if it was go here and there in the same area, but they send you off to the middle of nowhere and then you have to either walk back or use Anima to teleport (and once you're out of that stuff, you're screwed)

I wish anima either didn't exist, or could replenish faster or be bought with Gil, just something to make it more convenient instead of the unnecessary time sink it creates when you're out of it.

I hope more people share their thoughts and experiences in this thread

Thanks again for your feedback , guys and girls.
