Healer & Tank DPS (WoW vs FFXIV)

    Anyways, so hi.

One thing I wanted to talk about in terms of really interesting differences between FFXIV and WoW is what the community focuses on in terms of performance in a raid or party.

For some reason there is a HUGE emphasis on tank and healer DPS. I get it, tanks and healers DPSing = faster kills, even if their DPS isn't par to that of a legit DPS class. It's not that it doesn't make sense, but why is it such a huge focus here? Are the fights specifically tuned for needing the tanks and healers to DPS in order to meet DPS checks? Why is this sentiment not in WoW? Tanks and heals maybe might compare damage for shiggles or fun but nobody expects it there. Nobody points out your damage as a healer or tank, like ever.

What is the combat/boss design/combat environment/whatever you wanna call it, that somehow makes tank and healer DPS a bigger topic of conversation here than in WoW?

is there a need to say more?

Oh yeah, an actual correction : Idiots like to blame dps checks not being met on healers or tanks rather than acknowledging that their dps as dps roles is low-tier (to not say laughable tier).

But since in FFXIV using a parser to show them they are trash players is a one-way ticket to ban-city, they can act however high and mighty as they want and the GMs don't care.

Yeah, it's a really weird double standard I've found in FFXIV. Healers and tanks can be called out easily because it's obvious that they're underperforming but DPS can just fly under the radar.

This answers your question in a more exact and straight forward way than I believed possible. +1

Mechanics skipping mostly. The harder you smash a fight, the less bananas you have to deal with

Also, tanks and healers put out up to two thirds of a dps' damage, which is nothing to scoff at

This is a big question with a complicated answer and I don't want to make a long post. So here's the short version:
    • Mob Damage is bursty. There is much downtime for both healing and mitigation.
    • Mitigation Skills are long CDs tied to scripted battle events. There is no equivalent to WoWs "Active Mitigation" uptime.
    • Healing CDs are on shorter cooldowns, and don't consume GCDs.
    • Healer & Tank DPS have much more relative power:
A really good healer healer will be able to push 25-30% of the DPS of the top dps class in the game, while keeping everyone alive.

In WoW a disc priest, the crazy "Damage Healer" that deals out four times the DPS of any other healer barely manages 25% dps of the worst DPS class in that game. A more typical healer's damage is a rounding error on the boss.

The net result is that pound-for-pound, GCD-for-GCD FF14 is game that demands less healing and tanking from it's healers and tanks, while simultaneously given them more potent damage tools.

They should. When the dps can do more than twice to three times the damage of a tank or healer there starts to be serious class balance issues.

I see common sense is not your strong suit. If tanks and healers did damage on par with DPS, they would be incredibly overpowered. Hell, if anything, tanks and healers already do far too much damage as it is.

I see reading comprehension is not your strong suit. I said that DPS should not do MORE THAN TWICE TO THREE TIMES the damage, not that Tank or Healer DPS should be on par.

Understanding game balance and the reasons behind it isn't your strong suit either it seems.
