if you are getting an error message then its not the gpu its prob the hard drive. nothing but black with a beep would most likely be gpu.
already tried different graphic card. i mean, I've even try the boot up test and nothing at all. no pic no sound. motherboard lights comes on and cpu fan spin. but no pic on monitor.

how many power supply cords does the gpu take 1 or 2. my radeon 5870 takes 2 connections. my psu as only set up for 1 connection so i had to buy an adapter.

do you get a beep in the beggining. no beep means its a cpu prob i think. a crazy beeping sound means its a memory prob. also you could have the speaker that makes the beep hooked up wrong if theres no beep so makes sure all the case connections to the mo-board are right.

    in this order:
    double check case connections
    cpu
    memory
gpu power connections and connections to monitor.

also try to start the computer with no memory you shuold get a crazy beeping sound. then try to start it with no cpu. listen for a difference in beeps at startup. if you get one longer beep and 2 short beeps its vid card error i think. test this by starting your pc with no vid card in it.

The mobo usually comes with a small speaker, it plugs into the area where you plug in the case power button/reset/hdd light/power light
