you actually paid money for a gateway and are proud of it??

sorry, I really don't want to or mean to be a di--.

Moving on. I know they are expensive, but I've owned 2 different systems now and Alienware has always delivered dollar for dollar, and you can escape with a decent one for about $1500 nowadays.

If you look at the 9-1100 range you can find a couple great 15" and 17" Sony Vaio's with core i5's and 7's, 8 gb memory, and radeon HD's that will do the trick as well.

well best PC? custom build ones. Alienware? yes they are good but you can get better performance w/ better quality on each part inside by building one.

lol I've owned previous gateways and hated them every time, but yes, I'm proud of this laptop. In 2 years, I have had only 1 problem. The HD failed, but that was my fault. Took $50 to fix and I even upgraded it from 320GB to 720GB. I've never been more happy with a lappy (I've owned 4 previous to this one...all 4 failed horribly after a few months...2 of them being gateway lol)

I know! lol. I built my desktop about a year to the day ago. If I had known about the core i5 and 7 processors I would have waited a few more months.

I spent about 1400 bucks, all straight from newegg.com

    -EVGA Mobo
    -Core2Duo 2.8 Ghz w/ L3 Cache
    -4 GB OCZ dual channel
-Nvidia GeForce GTX 260 w/ 1 GB Video Ram
    -1 TB HDD - Samsung
-23" LCD monitor w/ 2ms response time, full 1920x1200 support
    -Modular 750w power supply

It runs ffxiv smooth as hell. The only reason I suggest Alienware is mainly for their desktops. Their ALX series is truly awesome stuff, and they have a great liquid cooling setup for multi GPU's. But that is wayy out of this threads price limit.

I would go with a MacBook or MacBook Pro in that price range. One of the best values for the money although not the best gaming performance for the money.

Gaming =/= Mac. Macs are great for productivity, media creation, web browsing, etc. Macs have to 'emulate' windows just to be able to run a lot of gaming software. A decent Mac is also very expensive.

Windows is the only viable option for the largest base of users for gaming.

Linux can be great, but there's a lot of extra footwork to get everything working right.

That's really awesome. If I had the money I'd be right there with you. How is the RAM?
