I'd like to see them remove the pets and replace them with turret-style versions. Make Garuda attack your target with AoE's, make Ifrit use Single Target attacks, and turn Titan into a pet that buffs the defenses of anyone around him at the cost of not attacking.
After that, allow us to equip the "essence" of a primal in our secondary slot. Make Enkindle summon that primal to do a toned down version of their ultimate, and have each ultimate have differing effects.
Everything else could stay mostly the same. Pet actions that were once tied to our pets can become normal actions. Adjust our dps to account for some added utility, and make Bahamut remain in the same place as the turret pet he replaced. Also, Auto-upgrade Ruin>Ruin III. Can keep the Ruin IV as a proc.
If they did the above, or even just the pet-turret changes, I think we'd lose a LOT of the clunkiness this job currently has.

I like the OPs idea in theory, though Stormblessed has a point that there isn't much going on between summons, if they're just casting thier elemental spells to gain elemental stacks.
Theoretically this could be mitigated by having the summons have a rather generous uptime with the periods between summons being rather limited (presumably with each summon having cooldown equivalent to one or two summons worth, forcing you to change it up, but not gradually narrowing your choices down too far, though you'd have to scale their individual power back a fair bit to compensate, which may contradict the plan to make the summons more special.
Alternatively, give the summoner a few support abilities. You could make room for them by only having one summon button, the choice made by pressing it and casting the element of the summon you want to call forth. (I imagine it would proc all of them like how fast blade can proc either savage or riot blade combos.)
+1 for Dissidia Summons - jump <3

I like the way Bahamut works as far as the concept is concerned. You can't summon the embodiment of a primal without building up some kind of power that replaces your egi. I think it could be thematically more interesting if we didn't get the egis and kept the carbuncles beyond just glamour, but with a twist.
The way this would work would be that Enkindle gets changed to Summon Primal and is moved to level 30 when you unlock the job. Your carbuncle is now Ruby Carbuncle, and you will summon Demi-Ifrit who will enter the fight attacking with the power that Enkindle currently has and remain for 10 seconds to attack alongside you for damage higher than your Carbuncle. Your Ruby Carbuncle returns just like with the current Demi-Bahamut.
At level 35, you unlock the ability to customize your Carbuncle's elemental nature to summon different Primals. Now you can choose between Ruby and Topaz to summon either Demi-Ifrit or Demi-Titan. At level 45, you get Emerald back and can choose Garuda. Throughout the level 50 2.1 and onward quests, you will unlock the opportunities to gain the other three elemental Primals. Aquamarine Carbuncle and Leviathan, Amethyst Carbuncle and Ramuh, and Opal Carbuncle and Shiva.
Later, during HW content, you get Amber Carbuncle and Ravana, Chalcedony Carbuncle and Bismarck, and Diamond Carbuncle and Thordan. SB would allow for Onyx Carbuncle and Susano-O, Lapis Lazuli Carbuncle and Lakshmi, and maybe Moonstone Carbuncle with Alexander as a special reveal. Then Demi-Bahamut could be summonable after you summon your selected Primal. Basically, you build up your ability to summon Bahamut in the same was as you do now, but the summon activates after you've summoned your other primal and before they return to Carbuncle form.
All these Primals would purely be cosmetic and thematic and would function identically, but with slightly different animations. This added level of detail could be compensated with some simple animations outside of the summoning.
Instead of Summon II, you could learn Tactical Shift, which would switch DPS Carbuncle to Tank Carbuncle, and Caster vs Melee would be combined. This could also crossover to Scholar and have Selene and Eos be swappable this way. Tactical Shift could be OGCD (60 seconds) and would also heal your pet for a noticeable amount as well as boost their HP if switching to Tank (Switching to DPS would cause your pet to lose HP equal to the amount lost.)
