With all the ideas getting thrown around, I thought I'd add another to the mix. The idea is to make heat management fun and engaging with machinist, right? So let's do that.


Rework the heat gauge!
  • 0-20 heat are cold shots
  • 20-80 heat is stable operating temperature; Split/Slug/Clean upgrade to heated shots potencies & adds 5 heat to all shots.
  • 80-100 heat is a caution temp and grants an extra 10% damage buff and another 5 heat to shots. Heat will slowly build to overheat (1 heat/s).
  • Building heat raises your DH chance up to 10% at overheating
  • Overheating grants doubles the potency of the next shot within the next 5s then removes gauss barrel for 10s. Barrel Stabilizer may be used to reset heat to 50 instead of a weaponskill to avoid losing Gauss Barrel.
  • 123 shots add 5 heat; Hot Shot adds 10; Cooldown removes 20 for 230pot, but removes 30 for 280pot when heat >80 (CD unaffected by operating/caution heat addition)
  • Wildfires incorporates turret damage and appears as a bar countdown on the bottom of the heat gauge
  • Reload still 3 rounds and 25 potency, but on a 15s recast. Bullets no longer nullify heat.
  • Quick Reload is a 60s recast and loads an explosive round which does not nullify bullet heat, but adds 100 potency to the next weaponskill.
