I thought they said you would NOT be able to view past quests but only the new ones once you complete them? A source is needed!

They said the only "one time" storyline would basically be the Umbral Era one that can only be experienced before 2.0, so redoing cutscenes would make sense given the world will change so they'll have to redo it (aside quality) regardless since the majority of black shroud will no longer exist, so the main cutscene can't take place in a spot that doesn't exist, etc. :3
They've shown they're dedicated rather than throwing something out, so the main story will stay put, it just won't be the exact same as it is now.

You just said two opposite things. That they won't keep the old cutscenes, then you turn around and said they will keep them. Figure out what you meant...They said the only "one time" storyline would basically be the Umbral Era one that can only be experienced before 2.0, so redoing cutscenes would make sense given the world will change so they'll have to redo it (aside quality) regardless since the majority of black shroud will no longer exist, so the main cutscene can't take place in a spot that doesn't exist, etc. :3

The old main story will not exist, how could it? a meteor is hitting, events are going to take place that further the current story, so how could the main story possibly be the same? In the letter from producer 2 or 3 back or whenever around the time they announced billing, that was the main selling point of continuing to pay for 1.XX because all of those story elements will be gone. So I think 2.0 is the opportune time for them to throw in some voice acting for the main quest, and any other major cutscene
MAGIC MUSHY ROOMS

Updating = It's the same cutscene but they're being changed due to the world changing, i.e you currently go to for example (35,47)..if that no longer exists when map reformations are done, you'll be misleading players. They're implementing a new engine for the game so they're updating cutscene quality as well as content, which includes more voice acting.
This would mean that we as characters in the world would cease to exist as well if that's the case -- They said that quests and storyline in progress would be reverted to a "starting state" when the transformation is complete due to changes they'll be making to it. The story will very much be the same and it's not the first time Square would be creating and maintaining a storyline after a world changing event (FFV/FFVI.)The old main story will not exist, how could it? a meteor is hitting, events are going to take place that further the current story, so how could the main story possibly be the same?
Right now we're experiencing two concurrent storylines; The Main scenario which is completable up through Future's Perfect, and the 7th Umbral Era, which is basically another storyline happening in conjunction with the main storyline, given the world is transitioning into a dark period (to explain the world changing) but that doesn't mean the main storyline will be brand new at 2.0 (aside obviously expanding it past the current final mission), considering you don't actually need storyline completion (beyond the first few as usual as they serve as guides) to experience the UE storyline (since it's a real time event) -- The UE storyline is what SE said would be gone at 2.0, not the main storyline, that's the one that was stated can only be experienced if you play version 1.x.
Then again, when they translate letters and interviews to French, German and English they usually make corrections/additions/changes, so it may have been recent info that the entire storyline would be going away for 2.0, but I only ever recall the UE events being a one time deal.

Yeah text is too old school.

Japanese developers do not have the skill to create an amazing MMO like Western developers do. Let's just hope SE can turn XIV from the sorry state that it is now into something decent.
Because western developers all have a great track record right? especially when it comes to running MMO's into the ground. I can't imagine where you came up with this idea that the nationality of a developer/company effects the quality of it's products.
Saying something like: Western developers tend to catter to western audiences better than Japanese developers.
That...that I would understand. But that's a nice blanket statement you got there.

Western Developers lack the skill to create a game that last more then 6months.
P2P MMO Games that held the majority >50% of their Peak player bases over 2yrs.
Western: Eq, WoW
Eastern: XI, Lineage, Linage2, Aion
Almost every single western mmo post WoW has the following pattern:
Launch: 1million subs (OMG THIS GAME IS AWSOME)
month 1: +10-15% subs OMG THIS IS THE WOW KILLARZ
month 2: -10% of subs
month 3: -30% of subs
month 4: -50% of subs
month 8: game is at 40% of original sub count
year 1: Game is on life support at 20% of the original count
post Year 1: Game goes f2p and is written off as a failure.
If anything Western Devs have no clue how to make a mmo with any lasting appeal. Western Devs have no clue how to make a game without copying others... and thus even successful launches end up with a dead game within a year or 2. Western Devs keep copying a broken concept.

@Xatsh
You seem to be describing exactly what happened with XIV minus going F2P permanently, lol. Do Western MMO games not have a larger fanbase? The number of actual MMO games don't matter if in the end it's the fanbase of the genre that speaks.
"Western Devs have no clue how to make a game without copying others"
All Eastern MMO games look the same and in most cases, have similar mechanics. The East caters to the East and the West caters to the West. There is a difference between laying down the foundation for MMO genre (EQ and WoW) to enhance all future MMO games and a difference in having others copy off of your own work. Btw, didn't XI take a lot from EQ? Also, XIV seems to be taking an awful lot from WoW in this revamping that's taking place. Not copying, but using what works, like I said :P

Having a good story is good and all, but I don't know why so many tools pay a SUBSCRIPTION based game, a MULTI MASSIVELY ONLINE game, for a single player experience. Seriously, are you dumb or just stupid?
