What am I doing wrong as Samurai?

I don't know whether there's a forum dedicated to classes and how to minmax like WoW does on MMO CHampion, so I'm cross posting this on the reddit.

I was fairly confident in my weebing until I just killed Catastrophe and only got a 48th Percentile.

What am I doing wrong? I look at logs and I see a shit ton more casts in general but I don't understand how in the same amount of time. Is there something I'm missing?

    Check out this thread here:

It has a lot of good info and discussion for Samurais.

Edit: Fixed link. Mobile version doesnt play nice with copy/paste.

doesnt seem to be too much wrong from what i can see except your not making use of third eye/hissatsu:seigan, i suspect its probably more about uptime on the boss as melee dps plummets whenever u cant attack. But yea pop it on the sam thread and see if other people see something ive missed.

I second the Third Eye/Seigan usage. It seems niche, but at the end of a fight like that, where lots of aoe is thrown around, you'll probably end up with Seigan giving you 1-2% of your total dps.

I'm not sure if this makes a difference, because your dps is similar to mine on that fight, but when I look at my damage breakdown, Attack and Midare are about equal, with maybe a 1-2% difference between the two. For you, Shinten outclasses Midare, and Attack outclasses Shinten by quite a bit. Are you making sure that you Kaiten every Midare? And Higanabana as well? Also, I noticed that for myself, Kasha tends to be higher than Gekko (but they both tend to be pretty close). This is because I default to the Kasha combo to ensure my Shifu buff stays up as much as possible. Obviously I keep Jinpu up as well, but losing Jinpu for a GCD or two is far less punishing than losing Shifu for the same time frame, so I lean on my Kasha combo more than my Gekko combo.

This may all be unnecessary. As I said, you're about the same dps I am, and there's no one way to play a SAM.

Oh, almost forgot! What's your Hagakure usage like? I prefer to use it within a few seconds of it coming off CD. 1, 2 or 3 Sen doesn't matter, as long as it doesn't put me over the 100 kenki cap then it's a flat gain to damage no matter how you slice it (no pun intended).

So, there are few things you could be doing better, but your biggest flaw is most definitely the shifu uptime. You're prioritizing the Jinpu buff combo over Kasha, which is destroying your dps in certain sections of the fight. you should have almost an equal amount of Gekkos and Kashas, but your Gekko count is significantly higher. Secondly, I can't find it, but you're using Hagakure on less than 3 sen, which in this fight is pretty pointless. You're losing around 10 Shintens because of this and it is hurting your dps. The one midare you gain is no where near worth it.

Other things that contribute: you don't have a ninja for trick attack: Battle Litany isn't doing much for you, you didn't pot, and your direct hit percentage is pretty low. I'd suggest remelding, eating food, whatever you gotta do to get it up. You have the fundamentals down pretty well, just stop letting shifu fall off and make sure you Haga on 3 sen only until you understand when it can be used differently.
