How about no, they put a decent price on it, it's a year after the event, that's plenty of time for you to flaunt it on your character over new players. They're just meant to be cool little season things.
But here's the thing, the Yo-Kai event (which let's be fair, is likely to end up on the mog station at some point), I was around for it. But I didn't think it worth participating in it. I was of the mindset of "If it comes to the mog station, I'll pick up bits and bats then, if not, no skin off my back", because of the intense FATE grinds it involved. Now, if the prices were jacked up considerably (by a factor of at least 10), then it would change my mind. And I'm usually one to partake in events, and not afraid of a grind. But the rewards themselves, knowing maybe 5-10 years down the line they might go on the mog station, figured "I'll pick up what I want then." I didn't want to do the extreme grind for the Yo-Kai stuff to get both mounts (which from what I hear, was a ridiculous grind that is on relic weapon levels).

Also, let's bring up RuneScape as an example again. If you miss an event, you will NEVER get those items. Period dot. They don't offer them the following year, they don't put them on a cash shop. To quote Kosmos, "You snooze, you lose".

As I'm sure you are well aware, it takes more than one person to be able to kick a player from a duty, so in all those instances there were at least two people agreeing they'd be better off without you tanking.
