    Coeurlfist's Chakras

So I've been annoying my Expert DR parties by spouting the lore of monks, Ivon Coeurlfist, the Autumn War, all of that good stuff as we go through the Temple of the Fist.

As all good monks (and probably some of the bad ones) know, there are centers of power within the body called chakras that with training and discipline can be "opened", allowing practitioners to tap into natural aetherial channels and boost their own power. Seven chakras, each with aspects of light and shadow, making fourteen.

When you're facing off against the great Ivon Coeurlfist in the depths of the Temple of the Fist, he declares that he shall open all of his chakras, and it's a mad race to gather up the power of his chakras before he draws it into himself to destroy your party (and to use that power to fight back yourself!) Yes, if your party is quick you can scoop up all sixteen chakras an-

    ... wait.

Ivon Coeurlfist opens up sixteen chakras. Not fourteen.

    What's up with that?

Everyone knows ghosts get an extra chakra. [/s]

That's an interesting catch, actually. I'm tempted to connect it to the fluffy, new age-y "8th Chakra" above the crown for spiritual enlightenment (gained by dying...?) but let's not discount a simple oversight, lol.

It's possible that that the 70-80 MNK storyline will have the Warrior of Light somehow discover and unlock yet more of them. I suppose we will just have to wait and see!

As an aside, I found it immensely satisfying to defeat the spirit of such a cruel and twisted individual. Coeurl are such majestic, fierce creatures so it is a shame to imagine someone like Ivon Coeurlfist beating them to a bloody pulp for the sake of his training and amusement. I will always have a soft spot for anything resembling a cat, though...

Even as I type this post I have one sitting next to me, purring happily...and in-game I am taking an alt through the Sea of Clouds and doing everything possible to avoid harming any Gaelicats.

Let's be real though, as a player the only reason you're in that dungeon, where you kill two coeurls (and pups that are probably theirs) who show up as the first boss, is for training (gear) and amusement. We've been killing coeurls for a long time, heck, the first dungeon boss you ever kill in the game is a coeurl (in Sastasha). Coeurlfist was just a bit more particular about his murder than we are.
