    Nothing influences which kind of materia you'll get (a V or a VI, I mean) unless you use a gathering materia, then you'll have the chance of getting the same materia. SBing is simply faster an HQ item. Faster still with junk materia, pots, foods, and/or other gear that increase SBing. I don't think HQ really makes THAT much difference. I used to SB the crafter gear with gathering during HW and that worked just fine so I imagine normal gathering gear would be fine.

    Well, I'm off to write a ballad about the good ol' days when you could SB crafter gear while with DoL or DoW/M. Thems were the days... ;=;

    Compared to NQ, using a piece of HQ gear is like adding one materia to the NQ piece - both make the piece SB 20% faster than a plain NQ piece would.

    The reason to use NQ gear though, is simple : you can buy it in Kugane. Take NQ left side gear, stick two Materia in it (as all but the belt has two slots), then make HQ right side gear and stick one materia in the accessories, and you'll SB evenly and 40% faster than the pieces would with NQ and no materia.

    Adding in SB buffs may help, but I remember back before HW when using things like +1 or +3 SB on gear really did not add much to the SB'ing at all, and cut down the number of materia you could get per set.

    I suppose I should be more specific: the new Potent Spiritbond Potion is what you should get. I forgot there was a lower tier one. This makes a big difference since it bumped me from 7% to nearly 10%.

    People may make HQ gear for spiritbonding now since the Mane/Hair Drop Rate has been increased.

    Person crafted 100 spiritbond sets, got around 8% chance of VI from his data
    https://www.reddit.com/r/ffxiv/comme...ets_these_are/
    First link appears to use crafted HQ gear, 19.5% materia VI from 138 converts (this is close to my own experiences over the past couple weeks).

    Second link uses NQ gear, has 8.2% materia VI rate from 1300 converts. Either NQ guy was horribly unlucky over a large sample, or HQ gear has a dramatically higher materia payout (or they have buffed the rate since he did his tests).

    The guy with a larger sample rate is likely to be more accurate. pRNG is a much hire sampling rate than 100 http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/t...=1#post2310334

    Or:
    • HQ gear has a higher chance at being better materia
    • SE ninja changed the convert rate with 4.05

    Sorry, no.

    Because I have been doing this in NQ gear and my small sample size matches up with the person Spiritbonding HQ gear. The only difference is the speed, not type of materia.

    NQ with 2 melds = HQ 1 meld.
