yes please! i loved added brand new abilites that only capped rank people can have. Makes you feel more like a master of the class.
Also for all the people saying "wait for cap" ff11 had mertis at 75... cap is 99. Did we all forget that? Sure lvl 50 is prolly too early but in another 30 or so lvls merits couuld be VERY cool
I would rather see a system added where the choices you make allow for more customization of your job rather than mandatory improvements like "increase dagger skill by 1 level per point". Since they are working on large scale content, it would be cool to see a system that gives you a wide variety of additional abilities - allowing for example one bard to gain abilities specializing them in caster buffs and another bard to specialize in melee buffs. Allowing players to change the options they picked would be key, of course.
Why does advancement/customisation have to be based on killing the same monsters over and over for XP? Can we move on from 2003 and come up with something a little less mundane?
This. There is enough grinding to do with all the classes to level up already. I quit FFXI because it was way too much grind, don't make FFXIV a grind-festival.Really? Like what? Because the modern MMOs that I've played that require subscription fees do not have this at all, so saying "mostly all MMOs" have this feature is either a niche market of MMOs that I've never played (maybe overseas EU/Asia MMOs), or just you being an XI purist desperately clinging on to some ridiculous notion of excessive grinding in MMOs being rewarding or some misplaced sense of accomplishment from getting one. I am more inclined to believe the latter.
Secondly, merits just adds more pathetic grinding to the game. XIV doesn't need more grinding because it already has more than the average modern MMO. We need content. More than five very short and brief grand company quests each patch.
Content =/= Grinding.
Third, merits were nothing more than a horrible implementation of 'talent trees' that XI threw in for a gross and monotonous time sink. Not to mention it had little to no customization because you were 'required' to have certain merits to do anything.
If anything, I'd much prefer to see a system developed around quests (at ALL levels) that allows your character to modify a new system that works sort of like talents and/or merits. I would much rather go out and actually accomplish something like say, killing all the primals, awarding one talent specialization and/or re-specialization point. Not only does this type of task actually feel like you accomplished something, but it encourages linkshells to help newer players while utilizing old content instead of throwing it away when the next patch arrives.
Big no to merits.
LOL cash shop! SE's way to tell their player how they appreciate them... pull the carrot and empty your pockets $$$
And to those who support it: you are kicking yourselves. -- We just need to sit back and laugh at people with cash shop items.
(Marvelous economics IQ test!)
Not to mention in your OP you made some blow hard claim that a "merit" system is in most MMOs. Again, though, you lose credibility by making false claims that most MMOs have it when its not true.Because.......
New EQ's never take things from previous EQ's
New Halo's never use anything from previous Halo's.
New Call of Duty's dont use things from previous CoD's
New Guild Wars wont use things from previous GW's
Halo....COD....seriously?
You want to compare FPS to MMORPG and exspect to be taken seriosly?
Grow up kid, all new games use things from the past. Its what we are used to and it wont be something that changes the game completely around.
All that being said. I ask you, what type of "merit" system do you want in XIV?
And yet the newely released MMOs (2009-2011) still utilize this, because there's nothing wrong with it.
Even though this may be true, anyone that was level 75 can say that all the end game content was super fun.
Sky
Sea
Dynamis
Nyzul
Campaign
Besieged
And so much more

im not comparing fps to mmo idiot, im comparing the change from game to game in any franchise. What is liked is always carried over. Everytime 14 mentions something similar to 11, people cry like little babies.
