    So for Hoplite, there doesn't seem like any mechanical reason why it absolutely has to wear Maiming gear, especially when the gear DRG uses doesn't have the extra Vitality that tanks need. We already have a tank based on block chance (PLD), so maybe instead have it based on increasing how much damage it can block. As for the lore, I'm not sure about it having to be Garlean (pretty sure they'd call it a Hoplomachus), but it would be nice to see a tank job finally having a better excuse for a job questline themed around what a tank does best: defending. Just have to make sure that because it shares the PLD's shield use that you make a really good differentiation between the two.

    As for Capsarius, there doesn't seem like there's any reason for it to use this "Repeater" as a weapon. Since you'd have it healing via grenades, why not have its weapon as a Launcher? It would still keep that firearm theme and I don't think it'd be the first job to use a big weapon like that to heal. Also despite this job looking more like it could be Garlean than Hoplite does, it could just as likely be from Thavnair given its use of what may as well be a delivery tool for alchemical weaponry.

    Both of these concepts aren't too bad though, and it would be interesting to see these get a bit more fleshed out. BTW, edit the post to bypass the 1000 character limit.

    I used Hoplite cause it's a more publically known term. Even tho Garlemald uses magitek and stuff, they still have lot's of melee fighters in their ranks. Also, the damage reduction is exactly what I had in mind, I just didn't word it very well.

    I also really like the idea of using a 'nade Launcher, I'll edit the post. Also, I'm not really familiar with the lore of Thavnaria, if you can somewhow work it into the lore, then by all means, assist me

    Thavnair is an island nation in the south of Eorzea known for outfits pulled right out of 1001 Arabian Nights and better known for being a nation of master alchemists. There's probably some more info you can get from googling "FFXIV Thavnair", but my guess is that there could be some excuse of Thavnair weaponizing their alchemy for some reason or another.

    With Hoplite, just make sure it stays about as far off from PLD not just in terms of shield stuff and toys, but also in terms of attacks and making sure they're using their shields differently.

    I can understand their alchemical developments, but according to the lore, they are not very advanced in technology, so firearms for them seems like a stretch.

    As for the Difference in playstyle, hmm...well, since it uses piercing attacks it works together well with a DRG, BRD and MCH. But I'm thinking that if the Capsarius were to use the repeater, then we'd also have a healer that benefits from their defense reduction buffs, but if Capsarius uses a Launcher, I guess the grenades would register as Blunt damage.

    Something I had in mind with the Hoplites tower shield is that if your teammates stand behind you, they take reduced damage as well, but then I felt like I'm ripping off TERA's Lancer class and scratched it, but do you think such a thing could work?

    It depends on what kind of weapon tech it is. Maybe not something like what we see with MCH, but something like a small launcher isn't exactly that much of a stretch for an alchemical delivery system, whether it be a small, simple shoulder cannon or a simpler launching device like a bigger crossbow or a smaller catapult.

    A slingshot then? Lol. But in all seriousness, there are some humanoid enemies that use slingshots as their weapons. Could be all Ussopp-like from One Piece

    Not sure they're THAT technologically backward. If they could whip up tools for their alchemy, then I'm pretty sure a big tube with gunpowder in it wouldn't be that much of a stretch.
