    The potency you lose alone is 15% (actually just under 16% for 1, 13% for 2 and 12% for 3)) of your damage gone per 1-2-3. (30 potency loss on every step). The other 5% comes from GB off. That's 20%. (technically higher if we include hotshot's multiplicative stacking with GB on).

    i like the idea of the OP but some things to point out about the current skills. now please take this with a grain of salt as i do not claim to be the best MCH. that being said the key to minimizing the loss from the loss of GB after a over heat is to use two skills Barrel stablizer and overload. now barrel stablizer is kinda a no brainier it sets your heat gauge to 50 enough said. now if you use Overload durring the end of WF but before GB hits CD the dmg should be enough to drop the losses by maybe 1~2%, simply because the Overloaded turret spits out in one attack the dmg that it normally does in 30sec. yes you lose the turret but you are doing 30secs worth of dmg in one attack, or so i hear. now back to the topic i would honestly like to have a sticky turret i can throw on the MT so i dont lose dmg from the tanks moving the mobs around like headless chickens >.<

    Machinist doesn’t need a boost. It’s in a good place for damage, but the class does need some tweaks to make it feel more engaging.

    Reset heat generation to Stormblood launch (+5 <50, +10 >50), but incorporate the pvp version of Hot Shot (+25 heat). Since that would force use of Cooldown, raise slug & clean proc rates above 50% or lower ammo recast timers.

    Another suggestion might be to rework flamethrower to something easier to predict when using it for only one tick by filling the heat gauge gradually instead of 1/5 chunks.

    Or, when heated above 50, the barrel will gradually cool down to a stable 50 after firing ceased for a short time. The cool down could stop as soon as firing resumes. This would also help machinists deal with heat when they don’t have access to Cooldown.

    I know this thread is old, but in terms of MCH feedback I really wish Flamethrower did more damage to justify using it on trash packs rather than just being a tool to gain heat. Also would it be too 'casualized' to suggest that gauss barrel just reattach automatically when overheating ends?
