Oh ok. I kind of figured this, but wasn't 100% sure.It is easily missed. When I first started it auto-selected Adamantoise for me, while all my friends were on Cactuar. And this was before the cross-world stuff, and jump potions, so it wasn't as bad(except for having to stay up until almost 2am to create a character on Cactuar) as what the OP is experiencing.
Palace of the dead does work cross realm if you guys are on the same datacenter, i already did it with a friend that is on another serverThey are on Cactuar and it says i am allowed to transfer there but i have to wait the 90 days for having the misfortune of being auto placed in Midgardsormr.
They wanted to have a full group for Palace of the dead, which we cant do cross realm.
I have been able to get help from them for a few duty's but its not quite teh same as being able to freely hang out and help do hunts.
If Squenix didn't magically unbind my old account from the vanilla days i'd transfer that but apparently all my account info and receipt of purchase was " not enough evidence of ownership".
At this point to me it really feels like they do not care about the players, took me 4 hours just to make a new account.
Earlier you couldn't, but with 4.0 (Stormblood launch), they changed it.
Players can now recruit a cross-world party to enter the Palace of the Dead.
*When registering to enter, all party members on all Worlds must be in the South Shroud.

the cross realm for POTD were added recently from what i know, maybe that is why they though it wouldn't be possible o.o but it is =)They told me you couldn't cross realm it but i'll have to try and talk to them about it after i get home.
I do appreciate the help. Sorry i started this off rather frustrated but my experience with the company in the last 3 days has been less then stellar.
And i am glad to see the community is still very friendly and helpful as it was 3-4 years ago when i last played.
What you have to do to play palace together: one of your friends (or you but the other way round is easier) will have to set up a cross world party in party finder. Make a private party so you can set a password. You then can access pf on your world and join their group. Apart from hanging out together, chatting and queuing for duties will work as they normally would. I haven't tested this myself, but entering palace of the dead should also work like that, just have your party leader talk to the Npc. You all probably gonna have to be in Quarrymill for this to work, if you're on the same server you have to, so I don't see why this should be different in cross world.
Side note, I found out that if you unlock Gold Saucer and queue for the instances Triple Triad Battle Hall you can actually meet players from other servers there.
