Lack of FF8

I've noticed increasingly this expansion that references and callbacks to old FFs are becoming more and more prevailant, especially FF6, but I have also noticed that we have barely any references to FF8 at all in the game, with the only one I can think of being triple triad, which is a minigame not battle content. Does Yoshi P hate FF8?

Is it too much to ask for a garlean magitek spider, or a blue garlean battle tank?

I'm not asking for glamour, most FFs have their cosplay outfits, I'm asking for battle content or story references

Also in the Lochs they added those mobs that are just sand people with a head and hands popping out of the ground. Those are from FF8, I believe.

The whole Diabolos line for the HW 24M was a big reference.

Some of those in the link are battle/story references. There's definitely more too since that hasn't been updated in forever. I don't think we lack too much FF8 though a magitek spider is due.

FF8 is my favorite, but to be fair, it is harder to incorporate in many ways. There's a fair chance it could be a section of Omega (I'm guessing each chunk of Omega will be from a game associated with it, which leaves it at 5, 8, 10, 11, 13-2, and Dawn of Souls FF1). If that's the case, the next set of Omega bosses would be... Let's just guess from the final dungeon... Krysta, Trauma, Grevier, and Ultimecia, with Ultimecia's final form saved for savage?

The only other easily referenceable items are the Cetra ruins (where Odin and Tonberry King were), Lunatic Pandora + Lunar Tear, Spaceship Ragnarok, and of course the Undersea Research Facility. I would guess these things might make more sense in Thavnair or Radz-At-Hanz where a lot of researchers we meet in other story lines come from. Or they could do a 24-man raid in a later expansion with the Gardens, with Eden functioning as the last one.

Tbh, I have a feeling we'll be seeing more FF8 for the next tier of Omega. Why? Omega Weapon has only appeared in 3 FF games originally. FF5, FF8, and FF10. 3 raid tiers right there.

Omega Weapon is pretty radically different from Omega though.

The Garleans... use... gunblades/gunhammers/gundaggers. Specifically, the generals do. I wouldn't mind seeing a 24 man raid or savage raid around Ultimecia's Time Compression ability. The concept of it would be interesting, even possibly sending you to time frames in Eorzea's past that we've only barely touched lore-wise.

I was ACTUALLY HOPING Omega would do this and not limit it to FF5. I'm hoping this tier only is limited to FF5.

There's also been a gunlance and gunshield. Anyway, there's no way all 3 tiers will be based around FFV when Neo Exdeath is killed in the first. The only question is if they'll go in game order or games Omega has appeared in.

Gunblades originated in FF8, but Lightning uses one, too, so they aren't as associated to Squall or Seifer anymore.

That said, FFVIII is my favorite, too, but it does have this sort of black sheep reputation. It doesn't help that it was the follow-up to the most popular game of the franchise.

That said, I do think much of FFVIII's content could be referenced easily when we step into Garlemald. It's very easy to imagine Garlean kids attending a Garden-inspired school system. Lunatic Pandora could be a future dungeon. There is plenty to use, the FFXIV devs just aren't.

They haven't taken too much from VII, either.

I think the more sci-fi heavy FF's are being passed over for now in favor of the high fantasy ones.
