ZAM: The implementation of jobs is coming up. Will job quests be similar to FFXI? Also, how will job-specific armor be obtained?

Yoshida: We are currently plotting job quests, so I cannot reveal too much. There will be many different stages involving different trials and stories. There will be job-specific gear obtained during the process of job quests and in battle content. All of this will be available in patch 1.21.

ZAM: How will job-specific armor compare to other high-level gear in the game?

Yoshida: Job-specific armor will have higher abilities when used by its specific job. All job quests must be completed in order to obtain job-specific armor, so they will be difficult to obtain. However, we plan on having gear created by attaching multiple materia surpass job-specific armor in quality.
... Then why bother adding anything to the game...

Makes sense though Jinrya. It is uber difficult to find anyone with 3 materia in each item. If he does it, he deserves to outclass me in my job-specific armor imo.

That, and there is still the possibility of unique bonuses. The hands slots for mages at the moment are lacking somewhat, for example.

Full set bonuses yes please. I kind of don't like materia in the game. I guess as long as materia 3 slots is impossible i'll be happy

I feel like the Materia system is something that should have been added more in the later years of this game. If you have the right jobs you can gather materials really simply, and just pay or get your own materia. Ultimately boiling down to luck, but... I don't know.

You're right. If someone wins at a slot machine he deserves to outclass you in the gear you and your friends adventured to get. It's a very realistic system in that no matter how hard you work you'll never be as well off as someone who just gets lucky and is born into money or whatever.

Materia would have been amazing if they made it so you could add materia to U/U gear but like many things (Inferno Totems and Kupo nuts) they took a good idea and screwed it up.

e: sorry about the double post I'm on like nerd rage roids or something right now.

    Agreed.

While the debate will probably never end between Crafters and Adventurers regarding Raid Gear > or < Materia Crafted Gear, it would be pitifully sad if the "balance" for the new, beautiful Signature, Distinct "Final Fantasy Job Specific Equipment" was about equal to only something inbetween a Single-to-Double Materia Meld.

I'd like Full Set Bonuses also, and/or some Unique Bonuses that don't exist normally through Materia, but *only* if Square doesn't use that as excuse to give us Base Stats on the new Job Specific Equipment to be equivalent or lower than a Single or 1.5 Materia Meld.

    To: Yoshida-san,

You want to promote a more "Final Fantasy feeling," and you're making Quests dedicated to unlocking these JSE items. You're promoting them now and the players are getting excited.

Please *don't* screw this up and undermine your hard work by giving Job Specific Equipment average / mediocre stats, or something that can get outclassed by just adding 1 or 2 Materia to Crafted Gear.

    Agree with this, whole-heartedly.

I don't wanna work to get that very nice looking WAR/DRG gear, only to see every LNC/MRD still wearing f-ckin' Haubeys.

If you want 50 gear, you have to level a craft to 50. Its long, drawn out and painfull to do so. Then to go on and get a 3 materia meld you have to try over and over and over, as well as invest the time and money into it.

Crafters are constantly treated as second class citizens.

Its not a matter of pure luck. There is the prerequisite of actually level a crafter to 50, you seem to convienently forget that.

I don't see you pushing for DoH to be capable of earning Mog/Ifrit gear with out DoW/M, you apear very against even a remote equality in the classes even though leveling a DoW/M is 10 times easier and faster then leveling a DoH.
