Looking for chocobo racing / breeding guide.

Is there a good resource for how to get started racing and breeding chocobos? I'm not sure if I should use grade 1 food for my first chocobo or what the most efficient way to go about breeding is with the goal of eventually getting to pedigree 9 with most stats maxed. I've heard racing is the best source of MGP now. Is that true?

Yes it is true (at least it was the fastest MGP earner for me) and it's also a lot of fun. Also, yes to the grade 1 feed; with racing you have to spend a bit of MGP to earn it back later and using the grade 1 feed on birds you are leveling to breed makes it slightly more challenging but you can buy it with gil instead of MGP so it won't take a bite out of your profits like the grade 2 and 3. If I remember correctly, I used grade 1 feed until my 4th or 5th bird, then switched to grade 2 for the rest up until my 9th bird and saved the best feed for him.

As for guides, I would suggest taking a look at Chocobo Racing 101 (make sure to check the link at the bottom for his 'advanced' guides about breeding, stats, etc.) and the Moogle Post's racing guide. Those should cover just about everything.

You can craft Grade 2 food with a CUL. The mats are from Unspoiled lv50 nodes, so, they might be a little more expensive GIL wise.
