So I apparently just wasted 450 Centurio Seals...

Recently got back into FFXIV after being on military leave for a while, and trying to get as much out of Heavensward as I can before making the jump to Stormblood. Upon getting into Ishgard, I decided to search around and look at what merchants had to offer before venturing forth.

Immediately, Antiquated gear caught my eye, and I knew I wanted a set. Centurio seals are what was needed to buy these sets, so I decided to slowly grind away at Hunts, buying the set piece by piece as I could while leveling up.

Then I hit lvl60. And Found they just GIVE you the damn armor. And now I'm kind of furious. I realize I'm just going to have to eat the loss, but I would highly, HIGHLY suggest SE not even give players the option to buy things like this prior to actually having them acquire the welfare portion for future releases, because I REALLY don't want anyone else to go through what I'm feeling at the moment...

There are many things available for purchase that also is given out as questrewards, this is neither the first nor last such.

Centurio seals aren't very hard to get - especially not at level 60+, so no big loss. A single week of doing hunts should be enough to let you buy a full set - and give you plenty of XP in the process.
Now you have got two sets for different classes - the one you bought and the one you got given - so not even an actual loss.

Why buy the set while leveling anyway? Until you reached level 60, you wouldn't be able to use it, so it would just be taking up valuable storage space, right?

Actually I'm fairly sure the reason you can still buy them with seals is due to the issue I ran into.
I had done my lvl 60 job quests prior to them giving them out from the job quests and am basically SOL without DOING the hunts... which is more annoying, because that would mean that if they REMOVED access through the seals, I wouldn't be able to get the gear at all since.... you apparently cant get them from the calamity salvager either

That gear used to be tome gear, it was added to the seal vendor long before Stormblood dropped, and the AF2 sets were only added to the job quests after Stormblood came out.

Nope, people buy them for desynth.

And hey, you got an extra set of things to desynth for when you get your desynth skills high enough, AND you happened upon some great advice: level desynths. Great for making use out of old gear, dungeon drops etc etc.

oh yeah I know.. they have been available for ages, Ive just been away from xiv for a long time (long reasons) so i never got around to getting the tomes for all the sets until after SB hit is all. I had been 60 and done a few of the 60 job quests prior to them adding those coffers to the quests, so for those jobs that I already had DONE... I have to collect seals XD

my situation was more out of the norm, but ..... still a thing .. Would be nice for them to add them to the calamity salvage/ armoire though to free retainer space and allow people who did the quests to buy them. I have a feeling it has more to do with being able to dye the upgraded versions though, but who knows lol
