Any advice to someone new to PvP?

    Good afternoon, all. ^^

I never participated in PvP prior to 4.0. However, since returning last month, I have been enjoying The Feast 8 v. 8 (training) more than I expected. It is most definitely not perfect, but it's been a fun distraction from time to time.

I have only played on my SMN, and I notice that I consistently rank in the top three when it comes to total damage. But, I never seem to get a lot of actual kills and my medal count is rarely tops for a given match. Also, my win percentage is around 25%, so there's plenty of room for improvement there, as well.

Just wondering if anyone had any tips? It seems like I'm just riding the wave of AoE tools at my disposal to rack up good dmg numbers, but I rarely finish off a KO. It seems like I need to team up with another player or two and focus on taking individual players down. But, the communication features in 4.0 are obviously lacking.

Bored at work and wanted to talk FF14...thanks in advance for any help.

On this link you can see the game modes, their objectives, pretty much all the must know you need, basics and such Lodestone PvP Guide.

I suggest you to check out PvPaissa Site for some more detailed guides, infos about ffxiv pvp.
Then always on this site you can find the link to join Team Tryhard discord, we could say it holds the biggest PvP Community of FFXIV, at least for EU/NA players, there you can ask for tips, advices directly from seasoned and veteran pvpers.

Know you opponents, find out what they can and can't do, know their cool down times, learn when they're about to burst, learn their bait patterns, dote them; learn Your class' effective bursts and cc/crowd control. Welcome to PVP ^^

    - Use the Chat Commands to help guide your tanks to pick up coins or to focus people with tons of medals (200+)
    - As a ranged DPS you do not want to pick up coins for a fast majority of the match as you will take tons more damage (especially since you are ranged and have the lowest HP Pool)
    - If you ever die you can pick up small medal drops to put yourself back to 100 without getting any disadvantages
    - Your Limit Break (AKA Adrenaline) is an AOE Splash that applies a debuff to any targets in that aoe. If you can guarantee it landing you generally wanna focus the players affected by the debuff

Other than that I mean, practice your combos and make sure the damage is pristine

Don't LoS healers, don't tunnel-vision, play as many classes as you can (easy now with 30 being the lvl req to enter) so you know who can do what. Recognise that at times what little CC you might have could be more important than damage (tribind is an amazing anti-melee peel, was better when you could instant it though).

Also burst damage is still king over sustained.
