i'm not convinced. that would seem to me a very flimsy attempt to connect the two. i believe these are ideas the dev's had after the project was finished, similarities they noticed and thought we'll connect the two, to add a bit more story/legend. if they had really set off with the plan of making 10 and 7 a connected game we would have a real sense of this, not just a few obscure hints, but proper mention. we would have the sort of proof where a FF fan would beable to play the game and know for them self that the 2 are connected and not need to be told in an interview. Not the same planets. "its not funny if you have to be told why its funny"
and its bad story telling if you have to re-explain something to the fans because it was so obscure they missed it
What I have shown you is reality. What you remember, that is the illusion.
Are you kidding me? Blue Dragon and Lost Odyssey are fantastic JRPGs. Best i've played in a long long time. Lost Odyssey blows FF7-13 out of the water.
Blue Dragon is a fun, light hearted game, with awesome traditional gameplay.
I'd love to see another myst walker game over another POS elderscrolls or fall out type RPG anyday.
Speaking strictly about the main 14 FF titles, I seriously don't consider FFX to be in any way a failure as a game. Most people seemed to have genuinely liked FF X, so I don't feel like X-2 was an attempt to "fix" FFX. THat being said, I also don't feel that FFXIII-2 is a reattempt to "fix" FFXIII. As a matter of fact, it seems to have all the same elements combat and story wise that its predecessor had. FF has a long history of revisiting many of the worlds it created. We have played in Ivalice several times, and more than a few spin offs have been made about Midgard but lack the "2" in the title. Also, I may be one of the few that genuinily liked FFXIII, and I think that the sales DO reflect more than just people buying the game for the brand. Case in point, the used copy of XIII at gamestop is still around 35$, which shows at least partially that it has maintained a fairly decent resale value. It certainly isn't my FAVORITE FF title or story, but I felt that it certainly contained all the key elements of all the other FF stories. XIII just got hated on more than others because the dev team chose not to cut you loose in the world until 30 or 35 hours into playing the story. Time will tell if they learned anything from our feedback about that or not.
Tactics is prob my fav FF title. When XIV was first announced before we knew ANYTHING about it, I secretly hoped it was going to be in Ivalice.YEs, I agree SE needs new FF game designers. I remember reading how Final Fantasy came to be and the company was in dire straights. Final Fantasy was a title (along with Dragon Quest) that helped "Square/ Square Soft" (old company name) make surplus. FF was a hit out of creative thinking but desperation. I just wish they can do that again w/o hire freaks and geeks to make new titles. We want RPGs not cinema and EMO-dis-functional characters on a quest.
As far as RPG settings of old, it was based on a single mission orbited by lots of quest (which was optional but necessary). I wouldn't worry so much a visual effects and graphics if the game's going to suck.
GDI, wtf SOMEone NEVER EVER TOLD ME THIS SH!T. Your holding out on me SE, disclosure damn it! I shouldn't have to depend on some third party to inform me minor details with just a hunch! >.>

Anywayz, all BS aside:
I'm really getting into FF-Tactics now these days. Seem like the closes thing to RPG Final Fantasy is ATM with new releases. I've played all the classics already and killed them all to the point of boredom. So SE can make a decent RPG anymore and slap their logo on it(damn shame, an I'm a fan-boy too).
For me, Final Fantasy ended when Hironobu Sakaguchi stepped down as the lead designer after Final Fantasy VI. The franchise still held the title of the franchise from VII on, but without Sakaguchi, the game lost its soul. I still do like some of the later Final Fantasy titles, they just don't have what made Final Fantasy a success. Soon enough, Squeenix will realize that they can only ride the FF-Train for so long.
You guys can deny it all you want but, it is canoni'm not convinced. that would seem to me a very flimsy attempt to connect the two. i believe these are ideas the dev's had after the project was finished, similarities they noticed and thought we'll connect the two, to add a bit more story/legend. if they had really set off with the plan of making 10 and 7 a connected game we would have a real sense of this, not just a few obscure hints, but proper mention. we would have the sort of proof where a FF fan would beable to play the game and know for them self that the 2 are connected and not need to be told in an interview.

Oh and I for one love all of the Final Fantasy games (atleast the main series ones). They dont all have to be the same thing as before to make them great. There was virtually nothing wrong with FFXIII. Linear? It's totally okay that it is. Sometimes too much freedom can be a bad thing (Skyrim, Armory System).
Gonna pop in here and make a bold assumption bases on common logic:
Final Fantasy X sold well
Final Fantasy X was highly liked among the general playerbase
Final Fantasy X was a breakthrough in gameplaying
Final Fantasy X-2 was "cheaply" put together
Final Fantasy X-2 was not well received by the general playerbase
Final Fantasy X-2 did not sell well
General consumers did not get on board with the -2 idea.
Final Fantasy XIII sold well
Final Fantasy XIII was harshly criticized
Final Fantasy XIII didn't offer any kind of groundbreaking elements to gaming
If FFX did well but its spin-off/sequel did horrible, the general consumer might be looking at the past to see the probabilities of XIII-2, in which XIII was not as good as X, so in that ratio, they must be wondering/afraid of how bad its spin-off/sequel will be.
We could just use a simple scale to represent the idea above. The top game being the most well received, the bottom game being the worst:
BEST
----
FFX
----
----
----
----
FFXIII
----
----
FFX-2
----
----
----
----
FFXIII-2
----
----
----
WORST
So it is expected to have low release sales, question is, if the game is really good, then the word will spread, and the sales will pick back up in the long run, and SE knows this. Its too early in the game to spell out doom and gloom, but the media thrives on these kinds of yellow journalism so...a grain of salt as a wise person once said.
I expect something I haven't seen in a FF in a long time: Deep storyline with interesting characters and character development. Last FF that ever grabbed my attention like that was 9.
