Coming from an EQ vet, I'm looking to play a class that has a lot of self sustain to allow the healers in dungeons to cast more dps spells.

I would say choose which one works for you, I just went with GLD/PLD because I like sword and shield. I would say they later you get in the game it's all items soft levels(iLevel) with attribute stacks.

My gut instinct is Paladin. Sword and shield, plus some healing spells, plus the usual tank defensive moves. Feels right, but im just guessing. I dont tank, so i dont present this as fact - only opinion.

Paladin for sure

Paladins have clemency and all around good mitigation.
Hands down PLD in my opinion.

It's less the sustain that will help (By which I assume you mean self-healing and such) and more just defenses massive enough that when topped off you're good for the next 30 seconds or so. That's said? ...probably Paladin.
