    New player and Arcanist.

So I started playing about a week ago and have tried doing independent research on summoner VS Scholar, and a lot of info I find is pretty old. So I have a couple of questions. The first is I have heard that scholar is a complicated class to play and might not be recommended for new players. However the style of healing it does sounds like a lot of fun and will want to play it at some point. however, becuase of the fact that summoner and scholar share levels it seems like the worst idea to try to play scholar after leveling up as a summoner. Can a new player get away with playing scholar?
The next question is if I don't go scholar, and go summoner I keep seeing that 30-50 is a slog, which seems like it would make for a bad first job. Is summoner that bad? So far ive been enjoying the dot play of the arcanist... would it be wise to maybe go for a different class to start with like thaumaturge?

The for the replies and patience.

Scholar and SMN share the same base class, Arcanist, that means that they both gain the equal amount of exp, no matter if you're on either SCH or SMN. All you have to do later on, pick up your job quests, these are separate. That is one reason, lots of people picking it, because you get 2 jobs (dps/heals) out of 1 leveling progress. While SCH isn't a very beginner friendly job, due to the micro managing of the fairy and the knowledge of fights, can be overwhelming for newer players. However while it does need practice compared to other healer roles, it isn't that bad/difficult, that you wouldn't be able to get into it. It also gives you the possibility to do your daily roulette faster, since you could queue as healer (sch) and go back to leveling with your dps (smn).

One thing I would like to mention, take a look at the changes made with the new stormblood expansion, especially at higher level. While I am not telling you what to play, all I can say is this, you might not enjoy it later on. Sadly that's all I can say, since otherwise my comment would be utterly bias, having played a SMN in HW but abandoned it now in SB.

But if I did have a say in it, level SCH/SMN till 50, pick up Astrologian after you have unlocked heavensward, or pick up red mage, after you reached 50, since that job starts at 50 and you probably have a better time with it.

I saw your post in the dps fourm, that's a shame about the DoTs. That's the most interesting aspect for summoner in my book. But I have hear dthat trying to play both is dificult, especially considering they use different main stats and would need diferent gear.

The main stat difference is no longer a thing, and to be honest it wasn't a big deal when it was a thing. We used to have 35 points to assign, but as of Stormblood launch, those points have been removed. They do need different gear, though, from 50 onward.

Is not as over complicated as people make it sound, for regular leveling dungeons its pretty easy since Faeries do all the work for you, tbh my first class in this game was SCH, and i never felt overwhelm or anything like that.

If you look at pretty much any "caster" gear pre-50, it has stats for both DPS(smn, blm, rdm) and healers(whm, sch, ast). At those levels, its mostly "caster gear" "disciple of war gear" and "tank gear". Easy enough to navigate.
