Why only one way to upgrade gear?

If you want to upgrade your tome gear, you have to do savage.

This is a big deviation from the past, where raiders received gear & tokens from savage, and all players were able to get slightly inferior gear using tomestones and seals.

Now there's only one path available. It's a garbage system, shoe-horning players into content and limiting their options, especially since there's been more than one way to get gear in the past.

Agreed. The best way I've ever seen gear done in a game actually allowed anyone who did any difficulty of content to get any gear, but it took much longer if they didn't do the tougher difficulties. That IMO is the way to go. Don't punish players for their choice of playstyle.

I like raiding, but I wouldn't be so dense and selfish as to want special snowflake gear only raiders can ever get.

I would guess hunts will be a thing as well.
Just be patient, like in the past there will be added more ways to upgrade your gear. It's just that savage raider will have the chance first and I actually think it is fair, since they put in a lot of effort and work.

Diversity in content has always been an issue in this game. Every Whm is identical, every Dragoon is identical. Slightly off target but on topic, why aren't there specialty gathering sets that let us get more skins or more meat? Everything points in one direction. Always has.

Hasn't this always been how it's worked? The devs add in more ways to get the upgrade items later, such as being the major incentive to run the 24-man raids released in odd numbered patches.

It just seems worse now because we're literally at the very beginning of the expansion and there's hardly anything to do once you hit Lv. 70. I'm of the opinion we really should have had Return to Ivalice ready for the start of the expansion too, so that people like me that actually really enjoy 24-man content don't have to wait 3-4 months before people start doing them regularly again.

I think its good people dont get the best stuff for facerolling easymode content. I would welcome more exclusivity in gear. 24s are just AFKing for 45 mins through a zergfest, so shouldnt be rewarded.

AFKing through Ozma was not an option when it came out. If you were doing that you were a jerk. It's not faceroll till enough people get enough pieces that the carries begin to happen.

You've been playing since 2013. You should know by now that FFXIV always had the rule of putting the upgrade items on odd-numbered patches through hunts/24-man raids. It always has been the "catch up patch".

Well you had to move and hit 1-2-3, but when Mhach, the IMO best 24 so far, came out our main chars still had tomestone gear outgearing it already. Only the 2nd and 3rd jobs of randoms turned this into anything more than a faceroll. Personally, I think there is too much content introduced into this game that is outdated at its release.
