That's assuming that it was the "Rank and file" who were to blame. I've worked managment in a large company and I know that the term "Sh*t rolls downhill" is true as ever. The higher ups will lay the blame on whoever they can find and chances are Tanaka fit the bill perfectly to take the blame for there moronic decisions (Like releasing the game long before it was ready)

I have little doubt that the lower level employees screwed up the game, hell they are doing a fine job as it stands and I doubt Yoshi is that much of a superstar to make the team work on a totally new level. They just needed the freedom they are now allowed now that the game is flailing to stay afloat from the higher ups.

"Director" is just laymans terms for "The guy you blame to save your ass"
