Need to know everything i can about worlds and servers

So, Tonberry is closed for character creation, and i've given up hope on getting back on it, so i want to create my character on another server. But i need to know some things about Data Centers and worlds. Some questions i have specifically are...

What World and Data center are best for AU players?

Is there any draws to Legacy worlds?

Is there any draw to Preferred worlds?

What worlds are more populated?

Is populated better?

What Worlds are friendlier?

I ask these questions because on Tonberry, it was well-populated, Dungeons took a reasonable amount of time (At least, considering the fact i was playing dungeons from before level 30, being level 30 then), people were relatively friendly, and i had an amazing FC. But since i got my own account instead of using my father's old one, i couldn't create a character on Tonberry, where my FC was.

If you're adamant at staying on Tonberry, just create your character on another realm and pay for a realm transfer.

Although if you don't want to go down that route it's understandable.

In terms of unofficial Aussie Servers, you have two options for the most part, Tonberry on the JP Servers and Behemoth on the NA servers, ping difference since the relocation is now ~20ms from Melbourne so it's not as hindering as it was previously.

Not possible right now. Tonberry is offically a Congested server, and as long as it remains congested it is not possible to transfer to it, nor to create characters on it.

To answer some of the questions of the OP:
No special reason to be on a Legacy world.
There are bonuses for new characters on preferred worlds - but only for as long as the server remains preferred. See http://eu.finalfantasyxiv.com/lodest...5d22338cf55ce7 for the details.

More populated worlds are better in some ways, worse in others. Duty Finder and Party Finder work cross-server so length of duty queues and such will be the same for all servers in the same datacenter.

As to which is most friendly that is hard to say - few people have experience from more than two or three worlds, so it is hard to compare them all.

Is Tonberry always locked? When my brother was trying to get onto a locked server he just waited till off hours to make his character. I'm not sure is the server was marked as congested or not.

Servers marked as congested are completely locked down at all hours. Non-congested servers can be locked during busy times - but are usually open for character creation during off hours.
