    FFXIV 4k performance

    Hi all,

I recently upgrade my GPU from G780 to G1080 (2nd hand) with I7 4k with plenty of RAM (64G). I having bit of performance issue after I changed the resolution from 1.4k to 4k. I barely get 40-50FPS with max setting. Is this FPS about right or am I doing something wrong?

the 1080 isnt a great 4k card, the 1080ti is better for 4k/60. ram doesnt matter. i7 should be overclocked, because it needs CPU power too.

That's within the spec yes. The latest driver update however seems to have lost 3FPS somewhere, normally It's a solid 50+ under all conditions for a GTX 1080 (non-Ti)

You can flip anti-aliasing off (it doesn't improve anything at this resolution), and you may want to go into the nVidia control panel driver settings and make sure multi-threaded rendering is enabled and PhysX is on the GPU.

    Mine is set this way:

Depending on your monitor, you may want to try Adaptive VSync, that may eliminate tearing completely.

    I have a 1080 and an i7 4700. I have no problems maintaining 60 fps at 4k.

So I did a bit of testing with the Adaptive VSync, and well, YMMV. You may need to turn the frame limiter off for it to actually do anything. What I noticed is that as soon as I turned the frame limiter off, it smoothed out a little, but it created a strange panning-wobble that I found distracting. So make sure to test that with the frame limiter on or off, as it may depend on your monitor's response time. I normally just run it at 60fps limited.

I'm using a 1070 at 4k and I get about 35-40FPS at max settings, so that's probably about right.

For anti-aliasing not doing anything at 4k resolution, it definitely does. I was toying with it turning it off and on and you can watch the difference.

Bit OT but 64GB of ram? I hope you do more than gaming on that rig cause that's very overkill i'd say.

    You might try two things:

Run the game in Full Screen, and see if it makes a difference.

Check your setting for Screen Space Ambient Occlusion, and set it to a lower setting.
