How is the challenge that Omega Savage is relevant to the challenge that PotD represents? How does "Oh, PUGs can clear Omega Savage!" imply that PUGs can clear PotD?
The two of them offer quite different challenges - PotD asks you to be very aware of your surrondings and react to "new" situations while raids require you to basically only follow a certain script. PotD is "RNG", raids are a script.
I voiced my opinion on this matter already and the clear issue here is: Part of the PotD-challenge is the "one life"-mechanic. We can talk about wether or not you personally like that, but there are a bunch of people who do (just take a look at how we've got several games that offer a "one life"-option as hardcore-challenge) - so it is a valid mechanic. And at least for me it adds to the thrill of PotD that you really have to be on your toes and pay attention to whats happening. That you cant just storm in, pull a bunch of mobs and if you die it doesnt matter.
That mechanic would need to go for DF - not so much because of "you need a fixed party to enter", thats indeed something that can/could vanish (seeing how we can progress through the rest of PotD with Df already). But that core-element wouldnt work anymore because people will cry for nerfs and complain as soon as they have their safefile ruined by someone in DF - either intentionally or by mistake, doesnt matter.
The later floors also dont really allow for a random party-composition anymore - at least not for one you get from the DF (by that I mean: 4 skilled DPS who are carefully working together might be able to run PotD with success - but how often is that going to happen in DF? Lets be real here)
So in order to have this content work in DF the following stuff would have to happen:
- one-life-mechanic as to go
- later floors probably have to be adjusted to be easier - looking at you chimeras, and at you, you weird gorillas!
- queueing with tank/heal/2dps needs to happen
...aaaand bäm, you've nerfed the content and we have one challenge less in the game.
Which is my reason not to put it into DF - preserving a challenge for people who'd like to put the effort into something like that. DF content is always easier than fixed-group-content because DF content has to be doable for everyone, so it sort of has to be dumb down for the healer whos currently playing on a toaster somewhere in siberia, not speaking a word of english and watching netflix on the other screen.
I dont want that to happen to PotD. Now that we've got more incentive to try to get up to 200 alone I can only urge everyone: If you want to play the content take on the challenge that it is because its meant to be one. Go in alone and prove that you've got it in you! Or go in with one or two friends.
Make it a challenge - not DF-content.
