    Dark Knight Question

Heyo, haven't leveled mine to 70 yet, but I got DRK 60, so I got a general understanding.

Was running with FC and my DRK friend wanted me to MT, but wanted to keep his grit on because he says it's more damage because of Bloodspiller.

I see that it's 540 potency vs. 650 potency... but if you got 20% damage out reduction because of Grit.... doesn't that make it more like 520 potency with Grit on?

And wouldn't you be missing out on the buff from Blood Weapon, another DPS loss?

    Thanks for your imminent replies.

I'm no Tank main or anything, and my DRK is only lvl 60 as well but... Yeah, I don't think Bloodspiller makes up for a constant 20% DPS loss. >_>

You are correct that these are DPS losses.
Even if Grit were somehow a personal DPS gain, being in a tank stance regardless of the Job as the OT turns into a group DPS loss by forcing the MT to rely on enmity combos more frequently or to rely on their own tank stance.

If he wants to stay in Grit, tell him he's the MT from here on.

I kinda already knew the answer, but figured I'd defer to someone who mains the job.

The reason they think this is because when the ability first came out a month ago, Bloodspiller's potency outside of Grit was 380. This made them equal both with and without Grit. It was changed in 4.01 however, and ever since then, it's been a loss to use it in Grit, albeit still an overall DPS gain while in Grit due to it raising the potency of your average GCD.

That being said, using Grit hampers DRK DPS more than a mere 20% due to the higher potency of Bloodspiller outside of Grit and the loss of access to Blood Weapon, which is our only meaningful buff to increase our DPS. Blood Price barely gives a fraction of what Blood Weapon does.

You know what's really a hamper to DRK DPS?

Death. If you don't trust the healers or your own gear levels, then suck it up and stay in Grit.

Your hate of stance-dancing is irrelevant to this talk of what an OT should be doing.

OT always outside of tank stance no excuses, and is a overall dps loss stay in tank stance when OT the small gain you get from bloodspiller on grit Does not justify the 20% of damage penalty of the rest of you skill set plus blood weapon and unnecesary agro problems.

    Ah, missed that point.

It's really hard not to get worked up about it. People on the forums push so hard to have tanks do everything in DPS stance because of how ideal it is for their super-hardcore-ultimate-savage raid groups, when the fact is, that's in the ideal situation, and you rarely get things to be that perfectly aligned.

Not only you are correct, but your friend seems to forget that the -20% damage is applied to every skills.

So not only will it do slightly less damage than without grit, but every single skills and AA will also do -20% less.
And if he switches between grit/nogrit everytime he wants to use it that's also dumb. because he looses 2 gcd everytime he does so.
This is not considering the loss on the DPS cd too.

Well, in short your friend is extremely bad at math and you should never listen to him.
