Steam payment HUGE price increase!

Subscription price is 9gbp in the uk, this equals to 36brl.

This means that square haven't removed the regional pricing from all places, and they havent brought all currencies in line with the global pricing structure.

Thus the official explanation is suspicious as there are still places officially with a cheaper subscription

(Also this kills the "it wasn't intended the existance of the cheaper sub" and the "everybody should pay the same" arguments, since officially square enix is offering a cheaper sub for uk residents)

Yes, absolutely, if SE decides that everyone must have a 'one price for all' policy, then whatever, they can do what they want, I absolutely wouldn't agree with it and you would see your prices going up too and it would make the game inaccessible for some people. BUT. They absolutely could have and should have warned people in advance before suddenly raising their subscription price by up to 300%, right after the launch of an expansion. Everyone here has the right to be annoyed and angry and ask what is up with this. People who don't live in Brazil and Russia also have the right to be suspicious, because if this isn't some weird stuff then I don't know what is.

We are actually paying a bit more. Only UK pays less because their money tanked recently with Brexit and whatnot (and that's totally unfait to BR and RU players considering SE announced it as a "put prices in line with the USA").

As for the rest, I already said that the fact they never warned about price adjustement sucks and is a huge mistake on their part. The only point I'm disagreeing with some people here is that SE has all the right they want to do so, even if that is both a huge PR mistake and a shady move

client version price, not regional price.
Not only have countries, who don't have the euro, to pay in euro (except UK), but also countries who are not in europe at all (like australia).

FF XIV use 4 official currencies: Yen, US Dollar, Euro and english Pound.
Every other currency price can change, depending on which of the official currencies your client version use.

Doesn't that mean that you were paying your sub way less than anyone else for a few years? SE determined a sub price, and you guys weren't paying it in full (according to the GM post). I feel like it is more a corrective move than a greedy one.

I see it differently. If SE is being honest, they should have announce the price increase "before" Stormblood hit. By doing it secretly and after expansion hit it look very bad. It almost felt like back then Sony suddenly launch NGE right after the expansion launch. The thing is, if it was announced ahead of time, there will be some grumble but it is fine since they said it ahead of time. Regional price is nothing new but in my opinion it is Square Enix once again believe as long as it is Final Fantasy, people will stay subscribe no matter what. I wonder if they did a cost calculation if they will lost money by rising the price. IF more people decide to unsubscribe because of the price increase then the money they get from the remaining player in the affected region it made no sense to do it. It will cost chain reaction that will made player who can afford to quit because their friends quit. In MMO, player IS content.

Now I'm not brazillian or russian but saying that they paid 'way less' is a little bit off. They paid 'way less' if they had to pay in USD, but they weren't paying in USD, and you have to bear in mind that they earn their local currency, they don't earn USD nor do they earn the same amount of their local currency as minimum wage compared to USD, in fact they earn a lot less even then. Try to be more sympathetic and see things from others' points of views.

In that case, I would not buy this game.
Acceptible subscription and retainer's price was a good way to lure a lot of players from low-prophit countries.

SE determines the rate Steam will use with foreign currency, and regional prices are a common practice. FFXIV as the secong biggest premium MMORPG was just keeping with the trend.

I am personally not against adjustments. But killing the regional vallue and sudenly doubling the cost for the players without warning then before purchasing a whole expac is a step back imho.

There is a lot on the previous pages about currency if you are interested, I think there are some good posts who were not deleted.

Just adding my voice to this thread. I do not care how much someone else is paying for their sub. If it is $13 us or $.13 us, it should be based on the ability to pay in your country.
