The sad state of customization

I hate to say it but, at this point, the server and code limitations make me wish they would just build the game up from scratch. Do another Realm Reborn kind of thing. I know that'd take literally years upon years with very, very little content updates, but I think FFXIV is a game that is worth it.

And you dont think that years of very limited content updates would simply just kill the game? How long do you think people will hold out with little to no new stuff, hearing "Yeah, but in 3 years, when we have this code sorted out, you'll get 8 faces to choose from! Na? isnt that worth holding on for?!"

If they ever go for a third MMO we can only hope they'll learn from this one - but I doubt that re-starting this game from scratch is a good solution, neither for the buisness nor for the playerbase tbh.
Even with the "little" customization we're having I enjoy the game - and I wouldnt want to look at years of no new content for the sake of a butt slider.

Well, they're slowly changing and upgrading the code from what it used to be, but the chances of another ARR level change is zero, unfortunately. I do agree with you tho, as I said to my sister when SB launched: "In 5.0 I wish they would drop PS4 support (Even though I'm a PS4 player, lol), even if it were to just jump to a future PS5 or something, and do a complete overhaul of the enigne, even if it meant 4-5 years of SB".

Interesting, I always thought this game offered a ton of customization. Yes there is only 4 face sets but you can change all the features for each one and there is so many color combinations for skin, hair and eyes. While in theory adding more could make them money through fantasia purchases I don't imagine it is high on their priority list.

I agree that customizing the physical characteristics of your character could be better. However, the character detail dwarfs most entries in the genre. The available selection of hairstyles is better than most other MMOs, not to mention the voice customization, which isn't offered by any other MMO I can think of.

As for clipping issues, FFXIV is probably the best game on the market when it comes to avoiding those. Long hair clips through some coats/jackets, some weapons clip through certain items of clothing, but it's nowhere near as bad as other well-known MMOs.

gw2 have mostly no clipping at all. ff14 is far from "the best game on the market when it comes to avoiding those". there mostly no clipping in BDO but not so much gear sets as well. now if the gear sets in ff14 was all looking good then what ever clip on but most of the gear are not good looking(low resolution texture ), some are in your face in cutscenes.
most new big mmo from 2010-2017 do have voice customization.


SigmaOZ mods in an mmo are bad. if you use them you will be the only one to see them.

The last time I played BDO I played the female samurai style class (the name escapes me at the moment).

With every step, one of my character's arms clipped in an incredibly noticeable way right through the bow on their back.

BDO has plenty of clipping.

didnt say it free of it. the original classes are have not so much of it but the one they added later are not so good.
thing is all lond and most of mid hairs clippeing badly
