I've done this, including deleting the pervious patch files in the ffxivpatch folder, and still nothing. The client will start downloading the first folder and then stop right there with errorsI was able to get everything to work by doing the following:
1) Open FFXIV_BOOT.cfg in notepad.
2) Change BootVersionCheckMode to 1
3) Save and close the file.
4) Delete all the previous patch data under /downloads/ffxivpatch
5) Start the game and it should work.
Hopefully this helps!!
I have never had an issue with this game before today. The updater fails for the launcher. I have straight up disabled any sort of firewall/security software, altered the .cfg file while deleting any existing download data, run everything as the administrator, and tried flushing and changing DNS. Nothing works (for reference I am US based and my ISP is working solid today). This makes me particularly upset since I just came back to the game a few weeks ago and bought Stormblood just over the weekend.
I edited the FFXIV_BOOT and it actually worked!I was able to get everything to work by doing the following:
1) Open FFXIV_BOOT.cfg in notepad.
2) Change BootVersionCheckMode to 1
3) Save and close the file.
4) Delete all the previous patch data under /downloads/ffxivpatch

Still nothing here as well. I've completely run out of possible solutions now, i've tried every single one of those alternative DNS options there. I've tried disabling firewalls and antivirus/anything that might be blocking it or hindering it, i've tried port forwarding. I've done computer restarts and router resets and everything else that's been suggested here or in the other thread.
Still it will not allow me to even see the launcher proper. It'll do one of those updating bars and on the second one it'll freeze near the end and give me an error. SE fix your bullshit, this is getting beyond tiring and frustrating having to deal with crap everytime there's the slightest update.
Felt like this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=noQsHiTJAXo hope this doesn't happen to me XD.
Also, worked, thanks.
Although I had no expectations for it to work, I went and tried a reinstall anyway. Same issue persists. Six days left on my sub, wonder if they will fix it before I just give up on it.

None of those techniques worked... same results every time.
What I've noticed is the launcher, which updated first, is showing version 2017.07.10.0000.0001(2671363). Where the update falls flat on its face is attempting to update ffxiv - 2017.07.11.0000.0000. Now, I know as much about patching as I do red herrings, but that seems a bit off, not to mention it's trying to update to, I assume, data from a week ago.
The resulting error message states:
Unable to update patch files.
[11006][20815][20866][19900][32]
C:/Program Files (x86)/SquareEnix/FINAL FANTASY XIV - A Realm Reborn/game/ffxiv.exe
I've tried literally everything that was mentioned in this thread and elsewhere. Nothing's working. I was hoping to log in to tend my gardens before taking off for the evening, but that doesn't seem to be happening... hopefully this gets fixed by tonight when I get home.
SO oddly enough, while waiting for SE support I tried going into my C drive... Program Files (x86)/SquareEnix/FINAL FANTASY XIV - A Realm Reborn/boot folder
From there I ran the ffxivboot app as an admin, and for some reason THAT allowed me to download the patch files
