    Unable to perform version check....

Honestly this is so frustrating, I have scoured the internet, tried to reset router, modify dns settings, changed the config file in documents/My Games/FF14 to force a check and a whole load of other things people have suggested over the YEARS this problem has sporadically appeared.

Anyone got any idea how to solve this?

On another note am I the only one that thinks this is a problem that needs to be addressed by the games technical team?

I'm also getting this error, never have I before. I've restarted my PC, I've cleared my Internet History, and I've restarted (unplugged/plugged in) my router.

I still get the error message.

    found solution for me.
the forum doesnt let me to quote the post so i just copy it here:

"Thanks for this info I was able to fix it with this by forcing the launcher to update by doing the following.

go to Documents\My Games\FINAL FANTASY XIV - A Realm Reborn\ open up FFXIV_BOOT.cfg in word pad or notepad.

    you should see this

<FINAL FANTASY XIV Boot Config File>

    <Version>
    Version 2
    Language 1
    Region 2
    EulaAgreement 1
    StartupCompleted 1
    B4EulaAgreement 1
    BootVersionCheckMode 0
    ConfigReset 0

the line in bold is the key change the 0 to a 1 and it forces it to check version upon opening the launcher.

After doing this it updated launcher and the game fine."

"BootVersionCheckMode 0" should be line in bold. Change the 0 to 1 and save. Worked for me.

This solution also worked for me. Changing the BootVersionCheckMode from 0 to 1.

The problem that I noticed right away was that even after maintenance and update my launcher DID NOT update and that seems to be the problem. By doing the above changes it forces the launcher to update at which point the game started downloading the necessary files for version 4.05.

This is a tip for people who have problems with FFXIV. After an update, if your game is WORKING. Make a copy of the files and keep it as a backup, if the game starts going weird you have a previous version that you KNOW is working to replace the old one. This saved me re-downloading the whole game and just doing updates from when my last backup was, much faster and less of a hassle.
