I was thinking, maybe LOTD should be a bar that is expended, rather than a bar that depletes.
Currently, LOTD is a finite amount of time when you can use an ability called Nastrond, a skill that deals 320 potency in a straight line, with a cooldown of 10 secs. That means you can squeeze in 4 Nastronds within LOTD's time limit, assuming you get the full duration. If you can't, then most likely you'll at least get 3 Nastronds.
So first off, let me address the fact that the difficulty involved with maximizing the number of Nastronds within the time limit is considered fun by some DRGs. I'm sure it's thrilling for some of you. But every encounter is different. Boss fights have mechanics, and some of those mechanics can deter you from maximizing your number of Nastronds. In some cases, you don't even get to unlocking Nastrond before the boss does something and... well, you know the rest.
Now what if LOTD is simply a bar that remains there, gives you a finite number of Nastronds (depending on how much BOTD you have at the time you activate it), and you can expend it any time you want. Makes playing DRG too easy? Maybe. But if you think about it, other jobs already have bars that don't deplete but expended. I'm sure I don't have to go over that in detail. Beast Gauge, White/Black Mana, etc.
And then there are jobs that both have a gauge that depletes and a gauge that is expended. MNK has Greased Lightning stacks which has a time limit, and Chakra which is expended. NIN has Huton which has a time limit, and Ninki which is expended. SMN has Dreadwyrm Trance which has a time limit, and Dreadwyrm Aether(and Aetherflow stacks) which are expended. You get the idea.
So it's not really that much of a stretch to think that perhaps DRG should also have a bar that has a time limit (Blood of the Dragon) and a bar that is expended (Life of the Dragon). To push that idea even further, perhaps the Eye stacks should also be a separate gauge from BOTD. An idea that has already been heavily requested.
And so there are my thoughts. What do you think? Does it make DRG too easy? Or does it make sense? How would you tweak my idea?
(* Note that I'm not all that familiar with other jobs. Maybe there's a job that is similar to DRG? Like BLM's enochian and Astral Fire/Umbral Ice? I can't speak for how that job works, so if you could comment about that and even compare it, that would be great.)
