Damselflies were already in the game anyway before Stormblood though so that doesn't count. And following on from that there's been plenty of enemies returning from not just FFXI but other FF games as well since ARR's launch so this is not really anything different.
Funnily enough the zones in Gyr Abania do have a FFXI feel right down to the music though - the Fringes is a lot like a mix of Ronfaure/Jugner Forest/Sauromuge Champaign/Gustaberg/Lufaise Meadows, and the Peaks is like a high res Tahrongi Canyon/Meriphataud Mountains - I almost stopped to use Silent Oils and Prism Powders to get past enemies that blocked my way.![]()
People should really quit with the reused argument, it's a final fantasy game of course they share the same data, doesn't mean they just copy past the same mobs. Also it's nice to see enemies from the previous final fantasy being introduced here.
Hey Enkidoh, The Fringes, I almost had the impression being in one of those wings of the goddess zone in the past.
Maybe I haven't played many FF games but usually the mobs in them while are the same name and type. are designed differently. 14 seems to recycle a lot of FFXI mobs down to the animations in some cases. While I like the FFXI nostalgia, it does seem lazy.
They taking a lot of strange shortcuts and they take a lot of questionable decisions like making the AF2 gear a tome reward instead of from quests, a class with 2 jobs, 5 jobs with no classes, 3 starting at 30 while 2 at 50, /playdead emote for the cash shop instead of adding it to the battle system. Same can be said for /victorypose at the end of dungeons or the new falcon campaign to keep you subbed in the game instead of just adding it to the veteran system. Sure that helps people get it sooner, but it also means if you can't be subbed during the campaign period, then you lose it completely.
FFXIV as a whole has always had a patchwork/rushed feel about it, and I wouldn't mind them going back and give the game a face lift.
What kind of face lift would it be? The one that has nothing to do about FFXIV? no thx. On the contrary i feel they are putting a lot of efforts to make it works it's far from being rushed. We could fly in HW and now swim in SB, to me they are adding more perspective to the game which is a great initiative.
I never liked the tome farm but at least you are insured to get your AF by dedicating a sufficient amount of time. I rode somewhere people were bored about leveling from scratch that's why they decided to start the job at 50 then people wouldn't have to grind an enormous amount of XP. About the falcon campaign, of course they want you to stay subbed it's a business company after all, what did you expect? They taking a lot of strange shortcuts and they take a lot of questionable decisions like making the AF2 gear a tome reward instead of from quests, a class with 2 jobs, 5 jobs with no classes, 3 starting at 30 while 2 at 50, /playdead emote for the cash shop instead of adding it to the battle system. And by the way, as much as i hate it, cash shop is a thing now so we have to deal with it .

Everyone always says "FF games always use the same enemies in each game; bombs, morbols, ahrimans, etc. Yes. But they're always redrawn or designed differently for each game. XIV literally lifts the models from XI, a 15 year old game.
I was wondering why the poly count was so low.
There are a lot more actually and actually majority of mobs are all from the FF universe. Locations, even some music. EXample: Lord Hien is Fabul if you recall FFII / FFIV most birds are from that game. Sylphs, ect. It's all a big clump of all areas over all.

Are you certain it wasn't Cyan's theme?
That absolutely is Cyan's theme.
And I never played XI but there is a lot in Stormblood mob design, music, and locations that is triggering deja vu from other FF games. So if anything XI lifted the designs from all the previous games.
