I would love giving tanks a break, but lately we encountering new players, or well the jump potion players, that will pull everything even without having done the dungeon at least once. Had one of these clowns in my party last night, we start and tank says well I am new and never done this dungeon. I said, no problem we can go slower then, trying to explain to him what he needs to watch out for, before I knew it, he pulled everything in that stupid griffin dungeon. Can't remember the name, sure enough I pop one aspected benefic on him, and woopdidoo everything and not just the archers flew my way. Thanks SE for not nerfing astro or it would have been wipe after wipe lol.

DPS on top of that was slower than the snail mail here in the US, despite nobody could follow or knew mechanics, but wanted to criticize me.

So yes, I am all for giving people a break, but if new players are taught to go that route, and ruining my fun leveling my 5th job to 70, I rather go with the more experienced players and have them pull the whole place and finish in a much faster time, at least they find their dmg and cooldown buttons.

Personally, as a healer, I tend to up the pulls to silently tell the tank "I can handle it." I even do the tank a favour if I'm WHM and pull them to his location followed by Holy to stun them and let him get a handle on the aggro. If the tank tells me not to afterwards, then I'll stop. But usually it's not a problem unless the tank dies because of the extra mobs. And since I don't pull extra mobs that I can't heal the tank through, that generally doesn't happen (unless the tank is completely hopeless at avoiding mob AoEs).

You can also use the feature known as "party chat" to let the tank know. I ask what kind of pulls at the start of the dungeon, 99% of the time, no one responds. I default to small pulls. I'd be happy to pull more, all one has to do is ask.

I usually do that as well. I'll say "Big pulls are fine" at the start of a dungeon. If the tank still pulls small, though, and we have a good AoE comp, I'll be a bit of a narb and just pull more mobs for him. Again, if he complains, I stop. But 9 times out of 10, the tank is just so paranoid that they still don't believe me when I say "Big pulls are fine."

As a dps (SMN) I know better than to pull anything in a dungeon, raid, etc., no dps should be pulling in dungeons. As a healer (WHM) I just let them die when they do stupid things like pull for the tank. Unfortunately it's the only way some learn.

Selecting a dungeon's pace is a tank's right and responsibility. Gauging a group, deciding what to try, and reallocating focus if things don't turn out as planned. Anyone who wants to pull instead of follow needs to get off their dps or healer and roll their own tank instead. There will always be a bad tank here and there, but on the whole people who dedicate themselves to the role tend to have a good handle on what they are comfortable with and what--on average--a variety of group makeups can deal with. Let them do their freakin' role, people.

I honestly can't stand baby pulls in expert dungeons. There's no excuse for it because unlike leveling dungeons, we vastly overgear it.

Define "Vastly outgear" because my first run in Temple of the Fist or whatever it was called I certainly was not vastly overgeared, and since I had no idea where any of the enemies spawn (And with SE deciding to add spawns to spots we're already in rather than further ahead) I thought to take my first run slowly so I could learn it, only to have the healer pull ahead, then let me die when I called him out on it. Things like that aren't acceptable, and never should be.

Once I've learned the dungeon properly, then sure, I'll pull large. Until then, I'm just going to let the healer die next time.

When I heal I just let the tank decide. If I feel he/she is pulling slow for what I can handle I will mention something but I never push them to do it. You do you, I'd rather have the group comfortable and get it done than wipe because of avoidable things. But when I started tanking I got to lvl 50 doing normal pulls for lvling which was smaller pulls at 50 I entered my first 50 dungeon told them I was new to tanking and I would try my best. Did the pulls normal for manor HM which is to the locked doors. Got to the last floor and healer tells me "stop pulling like a pussy, pull it all." I knew we would die but I did what the healer asked and we died, not because I lost aggro but because they couldn't keep up with the healing. Even as a new tank I knew my limitations and not having high aoe damage I knew my groups limitations. Work as a group not individuals and you will be more successful, look at your group comp it's so important.

You only really have a right to complain about pulls if:

    1. You observed the party can take bigger pulls and already asked in chat. YES, even in dungeons YOU overgear. Honestly, it won't hurt to type a simple "We can pull more." Ask first, don't be a dick and just pull.
    2. You're the tank, and someone keeps running off and pulling without saying anything.

Other roles have queue times and you don't because they wait for YOU(tanks). The same is true for dungeons. Setting the proper pace for dungeon runs is a tank's privilege AND responsibility. If someone points out the party can go faster then you should pick up the pace.
