1. The FATE has a spawn timer of 24-72 hours. Typically on Excalibur, the spawn seems to regularly happen around 12-4 am, which isolates a number of the players.
2. Fate credit. Ixion itself has a set enmity table. This leads to getting limited credit (i.e. You could be in a group and kill Ixion from 100% to 0%, yet ONLY get silver credit (so you only get 1 horn; which leads to my next point).
3. Purchase cost versus horn gathering. Even if the mount drop outright, you may still buy it for 12 horns. The issue is that you have to fight through the sever lag when the FATE is trying to compensate for a "few" people; it makes it difficult to get a fair reward. Silver/bronze is the typical reward level, even if you are there for the entirety of the fight.

Unless you are lucky; you have to wait for it, hope you don't get locked out of the zone/crash, get invited to groups in which you MIGHT get silver credit if you're lucky, and do it 12 times if you are on a populated server.

Try using a stygian ash (the item that removes the shield), I can't say it gives you gold 100% but I tried it out myself and while my group only got silver, I got gold.
It's really cheap on my server at least (1k gil) and you can override someone else's ash.

That still means some people who otherwise would be getting gold are only getting silver, it doesn't really solve the underlying problem of people who contributed not getting a high enough ranking.

Bascally if you want gold rank, be a tank or a healer. All boss fates are entirely scored off enmity.

Piggy backing off these two replies. Tanks only need to use enmity combo. Healers only need to hit once, then regen and overheal. DPS need to use their optimal rotations and try to avoid using enmity reducing skills (like LD). Also, the person who uses stygian ash will always get full credit (unsure of this myself, never gotten the item and it's still fairly expensive).

People are voicing these things like they are recent problems. When Behemoth and Odin first spawned, these issues were present then. The more people around, the harder it is to gain high contribution; you're more likely to run into everyone getting middling contribution. This can be seen continuing on hunts, Coeurlregina, Diadem version 1 and now Ixion.

In my opinion this fate should spawn every 12 hours or so. Currently the only way to do it is if you spend you life camping in the zone prior. Logged in yesterday and you could not even get into the zone like 4hours before it even spawned since everyone was camping it. You have people spending 24hours just staying there to get him. AN did you do get in, your lucky to even get silver because either someone pulls early or the because of lag. And as someone else said, Gold -3 horns, Silver 2-horns or bronze 1-horn. Or do like the fox and get 12-horns for gold, 6-horns for silver or 3-horns for bronze.
